another link that confirms around the £20m mark is
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/footbal ... 269115.stm

"Cameroon striker Samuel Eto'o is demanding almost £2.75m from Spanish club Barcelona after his transfer to Italian side Inter Milan.

The amount represents 15% of the US$29 million (£17.7m) fee which the Inter paid Barcelona in July"

 yeah, a bit bored whilst watching the england u17 v czech republic u17 match in the european championships that i sky plussed earlier.

As an aside, Benik Afobe looks a cracking prospect, has played really well in this game, got a goal, showed good skills, looks composed. Seems to have scored a lot at this level as well, I presume he will be knocking on the door of the arsenal reserve side before long, if he isnt already getting his chance

"Boix, who noted that Barcelona valued the Cameroonian striker at €20 million, revealed that the main difference between Ibrahimovic and Eto'o is the length of their respective contracts with Inter and Barcelona."

For a start to misled in your original post that eto was worth at least 15-20 million but stated nothing regarding length of contract, so i looked it up as i know i wasn't dreaming.

hmm, fair enough, like with most of these deals involving players swapping sides, it is always difficult to tell the exact figure- if the figure wasnt £20m, it seems strange that eto'o would ask for 15% of the fee, and state that this amount is £2.75m. If he actually transferred for 35m euro's (about £30m), surely he would have asked for 15% of this figure

Anyway, i suppose it doesnt matter much either way- i still think the BBC article probably has it right, since it mentions figures in a legal case based on the transfer fee, but obviously the length of his contract would affect his worth so it might well be more than that now he is at Inter, presumably on a fairly long contract. At 29 his value will slowly start to decrease though, and so i certainly doubt anyone would be prepared to go above £30m for him, and i still think around the £20m mark is roughly what he'd go for

Still, like i say, it matters not- i doubt either of our sides will be signing him any time soon

I'm racking my brains and struggling to think of any makeweight who we've taken on and has been a success (not that there've been that many....). Gallas probably did as well as any but even then he has been such a disruptive influence that you'd wonder....

Inter obviously did brilliant business with E'to though!

If they only offer £30m then he won't be going. And we shouldn't accept any players thrown in. We don't need cast-offs. Not a good way for a player to be introduced to Arsenal.

I'd say £60m. Cash. No instalments.

you do have to wonder, is Cesc really that such a big star, Barca clearly don't want him because they are only prepared to offer £30m and i think they will only offer that because he has stated he wants to join his former club. If Barca were really desperate for him they wouldn't state how much they will offer and apart from Man City who would offer silly money for any player - no other club has shown an interest

Barca are saying to me, £30m take it or leave it.

if kaka or gay ron torres and ribery are all 50+ then a 22 year old cesc is worth more.if you dont like it then bollox.
while we're at it slap a bid in for messi and say-its 30 mil or nothing we wont go a penny higher.
whats the betting our joke or a board are all sitting around tonight goin"well they say they wont go over £30m for cesc so we'd better take it or they'll be angry
I lost the plot on the endless King Cesc traeds.

But Merse10, you are indeed right, if the Board didn't/won't agree to the spend from any Cesc deal(if done), plus 40M they say is already available then I think Season Tickets and fans will be sadly lacking in numbers next season.

Will probably still finish in the Top4, but is this really a worthwhile goal for Arsenal??

Gunners reluctant to sell Cesc
We are not remotely interested in selling him.

I agree with the thread starter.

First and foremost, he has not gone and a conversation with Le Boss will play a huge part. However ...

... £30 million? For which leg exactly? Let me clarify, i would not sell Cesc for £80 million. He is the crown jewel, the team has been build around him and the formation we play is primarily to get the best out of hm, our best player. I am also not confident we would spend what we get in for him.

Cesc is a bare minimum of £50 million. I could give a fuck if he has Barca DNA, that does not equal a discount! If its take it or leave it ... fine by me keep your pennies in the bank!

To see Cesc go would be heart breaking, but if i am honest why the hell should he stay! Wenger has failed him, Cesc has been loyal and patient. He is our best player and yet works harder than the likes of Diaby and Denilson - wouldn't you be scratching your head!

The only way to keep Cesc is to spend and bring in quality players. If Wenger doesn't, i blame this whole heartedly on him (and i am a staunch Wenger supporter).

I think in a way,if we have paid the our edbt to managable levels, and there is a trasnfer kitty. Then if Wenger has cash to spend, then Cesc has a right to demend some sort of action? Surely?

If I were him, after last season, I would be seriously considering my options???
