If he does sign; we have Koscielny, Vermaelen, Djourou, Campbell(?). That's not enough for me. Not any player is like Tommy who was already brilliant after a few games, and can you really trust Djourou and Campbell in terms of abillity and injuries? We need one more good, solid CB if we are to compete this season.

And is Kosceiny in the French World Cup squad? Is it a done deal? Heard nothing on Pravda!
No K in the French NT - probably just as well for him

Kjaer is pretty good - as good as we would get I suspect
Yeah he's not , but some expected he could be in the squad because he did very well last season.USMartin wrote:http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/teams/team ... index.htmlmerson_is_god wrote:Is this Kjaer fellow any good then? Who does he play for?

Kjaer is a danish international that plays for palermo in serie A. He is a young but agressive centre back in the vermaelen mould as in he is no giant but is no shrinking violet either. He is the right age for a typical wenger signing as well (early 20's) as he has yet to hit his peak age so wenger has enough time to screw up his potential

By the way I also have to say that I would be amazed if sol resigns with us as well

Tell me the last Grade A signing we made ? I would suggest to you that we have never made a Grade A signing under wenger although a few have turned into Grade A players. If you still doubt our level of transfer targets can I refer you to the 37 year old keeper (schwarzer) that wenger is trying to sign now

By the way if we signed kjaer he would be one of wenger better signings
The rumours seem to suggest that Campbell will go for the 2 year 1st team deal at Celtic rather than the 1 year back up deal at Arsenal.DanielD wrote:If he does sign; we have Koscielny, Vermaelen, Djourou, Campbell(?). Which will mean that we lose 3 experienced CBs (not including Senderous) and so far look to be gaining 1 very good prospect.....
Methinks that Wenger still has a lot of work to do before we can say we have a team to truly compete in the Prem next season....I'll start to look more closely at the rumours once the WC comes to an end!
PS Koscielny wasn't picked for France but I don't think has made up his mind yet between them and Poland anyway.
I know what you mean....the last Arsenal signing that was truly Grade A was probably Bergkamp and he was here before Wenger!augie wrote:MEDINABOY wrote:whoa whoa!!!!!!!!! this must be a sign of the times ,or is it desparation these players are not even seconed rate,we should be aiming a lot higher than that . why have they always got to be french or lowlanders ,is it our scouting network or AWs preference

I don't necessarily think that Grade A is always a good thing and a lot to be said for Wenger's scouting network and his success at discovering/nurturing talent. It's certainly a riskier approach though if you want to win things...... But just once it would be nice to think that we didn't pull out of the running as soon as one of our supposed rivals expresses an interest....
This Koscielny might turn out to be a great buy.....but at the moment he is hardly Grade A!
