If you must go then be sure to take the low road, it's much quicker.

I thought I'd treat my girlfriend to a weekend up in Scotland when they play the Czech Republic in a Euro 2012 Qualifier! More atmosphere than an England game!

Edinburgh during the day, as it has less neds, but if you want a night out go to glasgow. Oh, and if you want an easy cheap fuck then gan to dundee, there are some right easy mingers about there. Loch Katrine is nice if you like lochs and the likes. If you go to Glasgow, do NOT under any circumstances go to buffalo joes- we were trying to get ino one of the decent clubs down the road from it, but as it was only me and my mate, we figured they wouldnt let us in (they never let blokes in), and we saw the queue for buffalo joes was short. There is a fucking reason why. It is the biggest fucking shit hole known to man, and as for the women, fucking hell, i'm sure at least 75% of them had an adams apple. Hopefully the fucking place is closed now- it might well be, no *word censored* ever went there

Hmm.... not so sure, BG.

All that way just to see 2 cities. I lived in Glasgow (briefly) and it's nice, but it's just a city, like Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester, etc. Not worth the expense or travelling all that way, mate.
- You're going to London (a truely GREAT city) so all the other UK cities don't really compare, although Edinbugh is very nice, and probably second only to London.

Get out and see the countryside. Visit Ben Nevis, which is a cracking walk and very accessible. Go see the Cairngorms or Glencoe. See a Loch - Loch Lomond and Loch Ness are the obvious ones, but there's many many beautiful ones. Go see the west coast, or one of the islands.

Edinbugh's nice, and the castle is ok.... but again, it's only a city. A nice stop off point along the way (as is Glasgow) but they're only the supporting act... the scenery (and the whisky  ) is the real star of the show!!

very interesting, g88ner. that's the exact type of thing that i needed to hear. i do like castles, lakes and open field, and as a non-european i get a great discount for train passes to spend a few days traveling through the countryside (one of those britrail things). i looked at glasgow in wikitravel, and apart from the nightlife (which safcftm pointed too  ) i'm not sure i wouldn't be better off spending my time looking at the lochs, as you say.

and that would also free some time so that i can go to the dunnottar castle, which has been the wallpaper for my windows in the last 10-12 years (as a teenager, i used to say i was going to buy it and live there. would be nice place to visit, personally). :)

g88ner, you said ben nevis, but is it something a normal ladyb, i mean, a normal guy can walk on? i am quite fit (play footie and do boxing every week) but i'm not used to hiking or anything like that... looking at pictures i must say i loved the idea 8)

i just saw that there are some glencoe/loch ness tours by coach, maybe i could take one of these :D

thanks for the info, g88ner. much apreciated, mate
