Well, obviously Sagna is first choice but I wouldnt exactly describe Eboue as a direct replacement. Yes he can do the job if needs be but I always saw him on the right wing. Not that he does that job brilliantly either lol. It may not be a priority but a decent replacement, should Sagna get injured, would be nice. And as Nordtveit seemed to play pretty well there against Sturm Graz, I assumed he was more likely to cover that position temporarily rather than CB.Boomer wrote:Why where's Sagna and Eboue?nino_rojo wrote:Anyone think that judging from pre-season so far Nordtveit is more likely to be used as a right back? Next 2 signing are key

Right, so we're either three players short, or we were unneccesarily paying three additional players' wages last season.
Neither is encouraging.![]()
The first two names are like-for-likes except for when you get to Gallas.
Norveit fills that gap.
Silvestre? agreed we need one extra defender but Wenger was waiting on Sol's decision first. If Sol stayed we had enough but now it looks likely that sol's going expect another transfer.
And Merida. Well he played alot!![]()

A number of researves can fill that role. Lansbury, Wilshere & JET.
Not sure what you mean by that mate

Re: thing is
I feel the same worrying times ahead. Come on Le Boss, where the fuck are our new players.........lowerwest wrote:wenger could solve this right now by buying schwarzer and mertesacker for example for around 15m. theres that much negativity about its really throughly depressing...so much so that i dont want this season to start. 1)are we saying the club are refusing to make the money available for these signings. 2)or would mr wenger really gamble with his job and stick to his guns out of principle.

I find with Eboue that sometimes he can be our most direct player offensively. Okay he's not a natural winger but he's not afriad to take on a player (achem Theo!nino_rojo wrote:Well, obviously Sagna is first choice but I wouldnt exactly describe Eboue as a direct replacement. However, in the limited time he replaced Sagna we forget how good a full back Eboue actually is.
In Sanga's first season he was brilliant. And you could understand AW reasoning as Sanga was miles better then Eboue.
Sagna gone backwards for several reasons, but we still have two very good fullbacks.

Eboue is quality.Bring Back Pires wrote:But I also forgot
OUT: Senderos.
That's six players leaving. And with the goalkeeper situation, it should be at least seven.
Crazy to think that you can ship out six/seven of the most useless players, and yet Eboue, Denilson and Diaby aren't amongst them. These really are depressing times.
my concern
my real concern is that this season becomes a real mess where the crowd actively start getting at wenger for his policies...how long will it be before we get the "i am not actively looking for new players and am very happy with my squad" type comments.
it isnt arsenal fans way to protest...is this the season that it really breaks down?

Correct, but only in terms of replacing personal not actually like-for-like.nino_rojo wrote:I mthink he meant that Chamakh replaced Eduardo, Kos replaced Campbell, and Nordtveit can replace Gallas.
My fear now is that we've been waiting on Sol's decision and as it looks like he's going else where, I'm expecting another Silvestre signing.

Wenger is rebuilding the defence but but All the experience has gone.
Does he bring in a 'wise' head or a more experienced but youthful player.
What I'm saying is don't necessarily expect a player like Mertsaacker.

Yeah. I'm pretty sure it was all over the net we were gonna sign Joe Cole (i even think there was a thread on here about it) but that turned out to be a big pile of piss, I'm sure this story is the same.mikeyb772001 wrote:We seem to be strongly linked Federico Marchetti today...?????

Marchetti surprisingly made his World Cup debut in South Africa when he replaced the injured Gianluigi Buffon at half time during Italy's Group F clash with Paraguay. Marchetti kept a clean sheet, as Italy were already 1–0 down at the time of his introduction. In Marchetti's next two matches, he allowed in four goals out of six shots on goal.mikeyb772001 wrote:We seem to be strongly linked Federico Marchetti today...?????

Thats exactly what I like to hear. He certainly fits the criteria we seem to have for 'keepers.

It's a better then Almunia's Four goals from 2 shots Ratio!OnlyGotOneSong wrote:Marchetti surprisingly made his World Cup debut in South Africa when he replaced the injured Gianluigi Buffon at half time during Italy's Group F clash with Paraguay. I could see why we signed Silvestre at the time but what I dont understand is how we have let 4 CB's leave for free this summer who have all played in the Champions League and in World Cups. Can any team lose four players with that kind of experience?
Could this be something to do with the new quota rules for the premiership, perhaps we are looking to bring in a CB who came through an English teams youth ranks (Cahill/Jagielka) especially now Sol has gone as surely he would have qualified?
