Agree with marc. 
It's so easy to say if it's never going to happen. However, faced with the choice of early retirement or a couple more years playing at or near the top and earning good dough to boot - even if with Spurs - only a right mug would retire. 
Mind you, given some of the stupid decisions he's made in the past, perhaps we should believe Merson!!
