Most pubs in Dublin have "security" at the weekends to keep the riff raff out. In the less salubrious areas they may have them on week nights too...
Dublin in general has gone a bit OTT with security. The commuter trains and LUAS (trams) have uniformed security guards that look like some type of PMC out of Iraq with black combat style gear and stab vests.
In fairness my local sees very little trouble (as do most pubs in Dublin). The two celtic gimps got in before the bouncers arrived and the staff kept serving them. It was pretty obvious the way it was gonna end up.

Why don't they just play each other four times at the start of the season and get the whole sorry affair done with in a month

I get your point too Reb but agree with Steve-O. Can't compare the two. In jockland it's been basically a 2 horse race since year dot.
