Does anyone care about England?
I care, the defeat hurt, we had performed so well in the rearguard action (given that our players can't retain the ball for longer then two seconds sometimes, it had to be that way), we worked hard but it all came undone due to four minutes of madness.
Even if we fail to qualify, all that will happen is Maclaren gets sacked (he never stood a chance, even had he won every game 20-0, he would be seen as useless), a new guy come in and new dawn, he will probably drop Robinson to get some more support no matter how well he then plays. The reforms of the youth system, the realising that our players are not that good that is needed, the objectivity of journalists, the fans growing a brain (someone wanted Maclaren murdered), it isn't going to happen but we need it to happen. So we will go through this mess again

I would rather watch my country Zimbabwe playing Swaziland because I know what to expect. The players are shit, just like the English but the press will not insult my intelligence by giving an over hyped overview of the team. The best manager England had in the last 10 years was Sven, but because of racial intolerance he lost his job. England are in denial & until they accept that they are shit, accept that foreigners are better footballers & start learning, they'll always loose.
I agree with you Zimgooner other than the part about Sven. In the most part, he lost his job because the (misplaced)expectation was that these players are world-beaters and should win a major tournament. The team were also seen as boring (not much of a reason) due to Sven. In addition, Sven didn't play the media game and was seen as "lacking in passion" due to his calm demeanour.Zimgooner wrote:I would rather watch my country Zimbabwe playing Swaziland because I know what to expect. Finally, his private life, as with most high-profile people who work in England, was regularly splashed over the front pages. People saw a man being paid £5million a year for very little work other than banging his secretary! (Sounds like the best job in the world to me

This is what I picked up from the coverage and what people said.

Indeed!! how many times do england go into major tournaments with the media and such like billing the squad as the one that 'could' do it. The last world cup was suppsoedly ours for the taking but yet again we dissappointed. The sooner these players start working for each other the better.Galasso wrote: I agree with you Zimgooner other than the part about Sven. I think I need to roll you back to the time when Sven was appointed manager. Sven began his stint as England coach amidst comedy racist comments about true football supporters never supporting England as long as they have a foreign manager, before all those idiots were silenced after England qualified for the World Cup. After England went out the bored media started scrutinising his private life again, to sell their grotty cheap publications. Sven joined the English community as their football team manager, not the Archbishop of Canterbury. Sadly this non-story about Sven’s escapades was generating much interest and resulted in Sven losing his job.
Alan Shearer, Ian Wright, Glen Hoddle, Gary Lineker etc were on record stating that Sven lacked the true British bull dog spirit and wasn’t the right man for the job. So many people were happy to see Sven’s back when he left & when it came to replacing him, there was a unanimous call for a British coach. Obviously, this was racism but if you prefer to call it by another name, I am happy for as long as you recognise.
England are playing bad, because they do not have the right coaches. I am of the opinion that this job should be given to a deserving candidate, regardless of nationality. I would love to see England playing intelligent passing football which would give them a real chance in major championships - not the tub-thumping delusion I saw yesterday.

uh we did have the right manager, Sven and even he couldn't produce what you suggest. It will never happen till the youth system is sorted out so we not only produce great defensive stands due to good defenders but produce good passing players (if Cesc had been English, his talent would not be shining through thanks to bad coaching) and restart producing keepers rather then shot stoppers.
I see your point about the racism

This all true Zimgooner, I was just replying to you when you said it was because of racial intolerance he lost his job. It would be a strange reason for the fact that the FA tried to hire another "foreigner" in Scolari and even sounded out Hiddink, before having to settle for Mclaren. And people I think sometimes don't know what they want - They want an English Manager but wouldn't mind Martin O'Neil!!Zimgooner wrote:I think I need to roll you back to the time when Sven was appointed manager. If Sven had achieved a trophy with England, he would've have been made king. As it is, because England were seen as relative failures, then all of his personal life, his demeanour, and his wages, were used against him.
I think the racial intolerance around England and its fans is always there it's just not specifically the reason for him losing his job - although it was highlighted significantly prior to his appointment.
I was in Tenerife, walking back to my hotel after a day out when I went past a bar which had the football on right at the moment Russia got their second goal. I didn't stand about waiting for the replay, I just carried on. The worst thing to happen in my opinion was RvP's injury which I didn't know about until I got home last night.
