I am more into Hip Hop but my opinion is, buy proper decks that play vinyl.
You hook them up to your ipod or laptop via the mixer and digital/audio interface, and use Serato Software to mix with.

Basically means you just carry two pieces of coded vinyl with you, one for each deck. (Perhaps two spares too).

Then all you music is in digital form...(plus you could bring a bag or records/cds in case your laptop/ipod crashes but that is up to you.)

Idea is it saves you dragging cds or records with you, and means that the software lets you have two "virtual" copies of any record, which is great for mixing.

Have a few lessons to start then spend time on your own practicing.

Most important of all...know your tunes inside out.

Learn and feel which ones lift a crowd, which ones build tension, which bring down that tension, which are early evening "head knodders".

Vestax make decent mixers. Technics make good decks.

CDJ's = Pioneer
Vinyl = Technics 1210's. (although they are proper expenive now since theyve been discontinued)

dont buy cheap stuff, you'll only wish you'd bought the proper stuff and if you wanna play out, this is what they will have in every bar and club.
theres enough online tutorials to rule out an expensive course and its just a matter of practice.
And the main thing is to understand the music, how its constructed, breaks down etc. Mixing should be fluid and not about the technology, ignore any bpm counter and just do it over and over until beatmatching is second nature.
Fuck this im going for a mix

Thanks for everyones help.

Are they CDJ 400's?

Got a few mates who I spoke to last night about it, he said to pick up a 2nd hand pair of 100's or 400's just to learn on, he taught himself and he is really good. He plays in clubs to crowds of 200-300.

My setup...

Image

My room back home is ridiculously tiny so it was a bit of a squeeze trying to fit shelves and everything in  Don't really use them as much as I used to but it's still nice to spin a few tracks every now & then.
