No, gus - I'm not a Gallas-hater. I genuinely rate him and I think his sore loser mentality is perfect for a Captain!! Seriously, it hurts him to lose - the way it should all Captains.gus ceasar is a legend wrote:I have to say DB10 that I thought Gallas had a good game!
Starting to think no matter how well he plays some people will just keep knocking him!

But I thought he looked sluggish and got dragged out of position too much. Also, the couple of times he came forward with the ball were just plain embarrassing

Then again he did stop Gerrard right at the end there.

Ball to hand? Given his hands were at the same height as a Liverpool head and closer to the ball then Sagna's head, I have little sympathy.
Gallas was really good today, a world class block on Gerrard and Liverpool's dangers came from range or set plays, not really something Gallas can do. Loved it when Gallas rampaged forward and held the ball up despite having 4 Liverpool players trying to get the ball off him

...and then promptly passed it to one of them, initiating a break with one of our centre halves out of position. Not too clever.Magic Hat wrote:Ball to hand? Given his hands were at the same height as a Liverpool head and closer to the ball then Sagna, I have little sympathy.

We are piss weak at oppo set pieces though, aren't we? I always feel if we're gonna concede it's at corners or free kicks. We need to work on the basics there; like NOT letting Kolo mark the bath spider Crouch. Put Ade on him, he's nearer in height. Basic.

As far as the hanball goes, watch it again tonight Magic Hat. They both go up, Sagna's arm is up for "leverage" then the ball is headed against it. Accidental ball to hand is NOT hand ball.
Webb got it right, Andy Grey called it right, I'm right, you're wrong, suck farts out of a dead wino's arse!!!

Only kidding. About sucking farts...

Problem was, Gallas had what support to play it too?
Whenever they swung in a ball from set play, we seemed all over the place, thankfully the delivery wasn't too good, I kept fearing they were going to get something on it.
Webb, you mean the guy who failed to show an ounce of competence all game? Gray I respect but I'm not sure what leverage a player can get by having his hands up as if is playing volley ball. Why did it need to be in front of a player about to head the ball?
You do love me so much gus

Not trying to patronise you here Magic, or take the piss either, but have you ever played football?Magic Hat wrote:Problem was, Gallas had what support to play it too?

I've played since under 8's (32 years ago in Australia). Played in a U17 schools championship winning side, played reasonable level with local teams in Ireland (couple of Championships and cup final wins) and now play indoors every Tuesday and Saturday. The knees are pretty much gone and I'm still recovering from the double break to my left ankle from last May - the Saturday after the CL final

While I didn't set the world alight football wise I do know the game on the pitch and I know from first hand experience that when you jump up for a header like that you use your arms for leverage. It was just a fluke the ball hit his arm while it was at the apex of its swing through the air.
I agree with you RE Gallas's run; there was no support. But that might have been because the other lads were staring at him open mouthed wondering what he was doing...?

Left back, very bad at it though I liked playing in goal. I understand the need to use arms for leverage and understand that sometimes ball just hits hand but first time I have ever witnessed, aside from inept attempts at punches from keepers, attempts to leverage like that. I was going to say hands ever so high but I remember Herridson for Charlton so I scratched that

Left the boozer for me roast lamb and tatties before the after match waffle
but Carragher man of the match??????? are you sure?? He must be the new Bryan Robson I guess
They made Almunia work harder than we did Reina but on the overall general play we were light years ahead of them, and worried about the scouse???? Naaaaaah, I fink that manure will give us more problems next week. According to the "experts" this was our first proper test of the season and I fink we passed it wiv flying colours. I thought we were the home team for much of the match.
