Lots of rumours going around today that we are close to signing Samba for somewhere around £8 to 10million. I'm not sure whether to be pleased or to wonder if we could do better, like Augie suggests.

He's certainly much better than all of our current crop (except Vermaelen) and he's a huge imposing presence - just like Sol Campbell used to be. He would be a big departure from the last few shite centre halves that AW has polluted the Club with. Hopefully playing alongside technically strong players will bring out even more in Samba.

Lets hope (if this is true) it finally signals a departure from AW's crap transfer policy of the last 5 years - i.e. 2nd rate French defenders that can't defend and a team full of oompa-loompah bottlers.

Now for a world class goal-keeper, a midfield enforcer, a decent striker and a fucking good clear-out of all the dross . . . . . .

The ideal transfer - if it is to involve Samba coming to Arsenal - is for a player/s swap..Swap samba for denilson & squilacci,

:high5:

Aw hardly ever reneges on active contracts I think Squilacci will be around nx season.

The 70 year olds will be mad if have to pay up the remaining years.

Wenger will say he's a 'winner' but needs 18 months to settle, blah, blah.

No we can't, unless you think the likes of Vidic are attainable!

Wonder if including those players would lower the deal or make it more expensive as we would have to pay money towards their high wages.

Agree with 1989, he wouldn't feature on anyones list of best defenders but given the elite are out of our range for whatever reason he comes into the picture. Out of the options we do have he ticks all the boxes.

Not seen enough of Cahill to judge. Subotic at Dortmund has a good reputation and always was a fan of Chygrinsky at Shakhtar who was a big lump that got a move to Barca but went back before long.

As it stands I would welcome Samba.

Surprised not been linked with Johnson or Dann at Birmingham given Wenger (and Medias) praise of them last season.

I'd welcome Samba happily.

He is the sort of player we have been crying out for, for quiet a long time and now, he is solid, he doesn't mind losing teeth and he is amazing in the air.

I would be happy if he came, we don't need any more ball players, we need a few brick walls and he is certainly that, him and Vermaelen would be excellent together, TV would just clean up around him.

What i want to know is who is going to clean up around Verm :? , he's constantly getting drawn out of position...maybe we should move Verm to DCM and bring Samba in next to Djourou...

Do you think Samba would not be better than Djourou, Koscienly or Squillaci?

TV would need a fuckin rented industrial strength carpet cleaning Hoover next to those clowns.

Don't fall into the trap of thinking he is not good enough for Arsenal because he plays for a shit side, firstly our standards are fucking low now and judge him on who he is competing against.

Squillaci, Koscienly and Djourou are hopeless.
