Henderson isnt 1st choice for the senior side. Assuming you are referring to JW that is.

And lets not kid ourselves, playing a full season with sunderland does not compare to playing a full season with Arsenal where the lad was getting kicked about in most of the games in all of the 4 competitions he played in. Start taking Jack to play extra unnecessary football now and by the age of 23 he'll just be another michael owen.

The commentators on sky can blame JW for england being outclassed all they like but surely they need to ask themselves why theres nobody but more plodders coming through.

Fair point, I just dont agree in general with players deciding when they feel they can and cant compete and when they think it would benefit them, that decision should be solely down to the England management team so, even though he is a bit in need of a rest, I'm glad that Henderson went to the tournament and hope people dont slag him off too much if he doesnt grab all the matches by the throat. Also, of course, he is a right sided midfielder and for some reason he's being asked to play out of position, which wont help him
Jack is now a senior England player, the under 21's are there to give chances to players who might have what it takes to break into the senior side in later years.

Jack has already established himself in the first team and will learn nothing from this tournamount IMO.

I totally agree left foot, why should JW drop down to the U-21's.......just because the rest are very average? Club football is so much more important than the national side. We pay over a grand for our ST's so we should see our best players playing for our clubs, not rest them for a month so they can play in an U-21 tournament like Pearce suggested we could have done! Twat.

Cant agree that club football is more important than international football and, tbh, paying over a grand for a ST doesnt entitle you to anything. The fact is that he has taken a decision out of the managements hands- Pearce and Capello might jointly have decided that, in their opinion, Jack Wilshere would benefit from going along to the tournament, being used sparingly but getting some time on the pitch, and experiencing the whole being away from home for a few weeks in a fairly intensive camp environment. Personally I like to think that players get valuable tournament experience by going to things like this rather than rocking up for an important senior team tournament and finding it hard to adjust to being in that kind of an environment. The management team should have discussed what they felt was best for him and if he wants to play for England he should have respected their right to do so.

All just in my opinion like- I consider being asked to represent your national team at any level to be an honour, and if they felt he would benefit from it as a player then he should have gone. I dont like this current attitude of only the club teams mattering, fuck the club teams, if they have english players they should be required to represent england when asked. As a starting point i would tell any club that if they pull their players out of international games without the england doctors agreeing, they should be banned from the FA Cup for 5 years. Also the UEFA Champions League is, as the name suggests, ran by the european football associations- I'd like the FA to say that if any club isnt 100% behind the national team, they wont sanction them as a representative of the English FA in the CL, see how much Wenger/ Ferguson/ Ancelotti etc bitch about international games then

Edit: fucking hell, bit of a rant that like!

We'll agree to disagree on that one then safcftm :D

Jack now appears to be a full England regular, and is a regular PL and CL player. An U-21 tournament will not benefit him in any way after playing 60 games in a season. Sorry, but the people who pay your contract should very much be in charge of your destiny, not some part time manager. My club takes a shed load of money off the fans to watch our best team week in week out, not a team that is in effect, chosen by national team managers.

I would argue that an U-21 tournament cannot adequately replicate the atmosphere, tension or environment of representing your country at the world cup or even the euros. The best thing for Arsenal, England and the player himself is that he sits on a beach.

The only person that would benefit from hack going to this shit would be SP's ego. He should be grateful that at least now he has a ready made excuse.

I remember buying him on FM2009, turned out to be a good player. Thats the length of my knowledge on him

And the guy looked outstanding from what I seen of the match again tonight 8) Having not seen or heard of the guy prior to this tournament I have to see that he has really really impressed me thus far and looks all round a better player than song by some distance

I am a big Athletic Club fan and can confirm the quality of Javi Martinez and also a young winger called Iker Muniain who also with the Spanish U21 squad.

Not to mention Fernando Llorente.

Martinez is a world cup winner, he's in the senior Spanish squad already and is above the level of the U-21's. No surprise he stands out.

Lump it at Wellbeck seems to be the main tactic.
