So that's Cesc staying then

All this talk of us wanting £45-50 million for Cesc is totally unrealistic.

Not at all. The market dictates the prices. Cesc is valued at that price by everyone in the game bar it seems Barcelona. We simply don't have to sell him under valued. For Arsenal to let our best player go for only 35 million wouldn't make any sense at all, and with him being 24, would be an horrendous bit of business.[/quote]

If he is not for sale then why have Asenal not offered out a statement in the same way The Heebs have about Modric?

Hill-Wood hasn't categorically said he isn't for sale either just that "we do not want to let him go".

Big difference that!

I made that very same point last night on the transfer sticky - if a guy is not going to be sold then you make a statement saying as much but saying that you dont want him to leave is far from definitive and very much leaves the door open.

Have to say though percy that accepting anything less than 40m is bending over for barca to fcuk us as far as I am concerned

Augie I would have agreed with you two seasons ago and would have gone as high as £50 million as a reasonable asking figure for Cesc.

However his stock has fallen over the last couple of years and he is not the wonder kid idolised by world football that he was then.

I think if he wants out then we should get rid as quick as possible. Yes he might have all the skills in the world but if his heart aint at the club then he is just a passenger, of which we already have too many.

More and more speculation linking Villa with the rentboys and that sale funding a proper bid for Cesc. Seeing as Chelski will massively overpay and all we could be quids in if this goes through.

Not sure about that one mate!

Think about it. Gervinho - 12. Samba - 10. Cahill - 18. That's 40 there.

Then add in a top class DM, maybe Leighton Baines too if we miss out on one of the CB, factor in the wages of all them 4 minus Cesc's wages and you got yourself a pretty hefty transfer spend.

And RvP is better than Villa.

That is a deal I would happily accept - a striker with real pace is a novelty at our club in recent years :(

I couldn't really give a fuck about him anymore, I'm more worried that Bendy, Denilson et al are still at the club, I want them shifted ASP. Don't think I can stand another season with them playing!

Not a chance. RVP only plays half a season at best since 2004

Agreed, Villa is quality. One just has to look at the amount of goals he has been banging in for Club and Country to conclude he is the better player and I, for one, would welcome him.

More importantly it is the type of player Arsenal need. Not the Gervinho's of the world and players "who can do a job". It is but a pipe dream and I'm not deluded enough to believe we can ever compete for players like him.

Even tho there was a time when Villa was available because Valencia were in financial difficulties and Cesc apparently urged Wenger to consider him.

both very talented, but one stays fit for the majority of the season.

Villa along with Eto'o have been the most consistent strikers for the past 6 years in europe.

We're only going to win trophies when our best players stay fit the majority of the season, along with having fundamentals like a solid defence.

Barca like to play games, they rather buy a winger than save up for cesc. Guess keeping Jose at madrid down for another season is more important.

If both are fit,RVP is better than Villa. Villa is a tremendous striker, RVP is a better all round player.

Agreed, rvp's strike ratio in a team that came fourth in a harder league speaks volumes. A granny with one leg could score 25 goals a season in la liga for barca imho.

The way i see it is that Barca have only ever been willing to offer 30/35 mill - So a deal will only be done when that price is acceptable to us. Next summer i reckon.
