they have more freedom to do this sort of stuff, let's face it your average spud isn't going to get near a job where a criminal record would harm your chances, whereas we gooners have the humble aspiration of not being a worthless dolescum bastard fuck up and therefore cannot just go around hitting people all the time. it was fucking hilarious in valencia when they got the shit kicked out of them by the spanish police, i wish the met dealt with the scum like that.

I have an Irish mate that's a cop in London. He's in the armed response unit now but he started work on the beat in tottingham. He once told me that the local fuzz are afraid to be seen to be too heavy handed on the spuds because there is still residual fear of what happened at Broadwater Farm back in 1985. There is a perception that spudville is a tinderbox that might blow up again. That's what my mate the plod said anyway.
And no, he wasn't part of the team that shot that poor Brazilian guy on the tube. But he did tell me the full details of that shooting and it was pretty f*cking gruesome.
