WILL CESC GO DOWN AS AN ARSENAL LEGEND???

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Legend in my lifetime.

By far the most talented player I have ever seen come "through" the club.

Player of my generation, wouldn't be out of place in any greatest Arsenal XI list.

Legends do more than play fantastically for the Club...they have Arsenal in their blood. Cesc may have loved Arsenal but a part of me believes he used his Spanish mates to crank up his move. Great yes ..legend No.....Great Captain definatly not.

Well said. Exceptional player who will go down as one of the best, but NOT a Legend. A Legend leaves a legacy which Cesc has not done.

Has also left on very poor terms with the fans unlike other Legends PV4 TH14etc... He's going to have to do one hell of a farewell video.

Tough one this.

A legend does not have to win masses of trophies - Liam Brady only won an FA cup as a first team regular, and Cesc has won nothing. Cesc has been one of the greatest players from a technical point of view - right up there, even better than Vieira, but his clear love for Barca right now and the fact he is saving the best part of his career for them removes the legend status.

I think years from now especially as the dark years continue at arsenal, we will look back at Cesc as a legend

Of course he will always be a legend - we shouldnt even need to have this debate

Cannot understand the bullshit excuse of needing to win trophies to be classed as a legend - by that standard djimi traore would be a legend with the bin dippers after playing in the champs lge final or if you want closer to home we could cite grimandi or chris wreh as a legend based on the medals they won whilst at our club  Cesc is a quality player who would have won medals in any of the past wenger teams and would have been a major contributer in those success and you cannot hold it against him that wenger expected him to carry a lightweight lacking in quality team for the last few seasons :(

Methinks people are allowing their bitterness over how this whole thing has unfolded in the past 2 summers to cloud their judgement on someone who has been an absolute class player for us

Not an all time legend but certainly up there with say Brady in someone who was amazing but never achieved great success at the club.

I love him as a footballer.

Nope, not a legend!

Technical ability isn't the measure of a legend. Someone who acheived something remarkable while being an inspiration is.

He failed on both counts.

If the 'rumours' about all the shit he's pulled in the last year are true (and I can certainly believe some of it) then no. They're not a legend for me unless they truly love this club, which is why I think Jack will be one in 10-15 years time if we can hang on to him.

Very good player - yes
Legend - No chance ( not in the same mould as Bergkamp, Adams or Winterburn)
Good Captain - Definately not.
