It's all a load of Cannonballs in here! This is the virtual Arsenal pub where you can chat about anything except football. Be warned though, like any pub, the content may not always be suitable for everyone.

Is there any other gooners here who are in the trade, if so how is it for work out there and do you think it's a big risk?

don't bother mate, the government love people like you...i give you a tip if you want to get on in britain.
put on 30st so you can't move, claim disability benefit because you have a condition that makes you fat and unable to work, then you get two young female carers coming in each week to wash you down, you get a mobility scooter to go 150 yards down to your local newsagent to buy your 40 fags, tonnes of crisps and chocolate and a tenners worth of lottery tickets.
And you sit in all day watching Jeremy Kyle, This Morning and Loose Women

Hehe!!
What part of Essex has you brother in law set up shop, and is it going well?
As I'm new to the area I'm curious to how the painting & decorating trade is doing in Essex! Not that I'll be just focusing on Essex, I've already managed to get a couple of jobs set up in northants!
He's literally just set up in the last fortnight and is trying to pal up with a few builders and local housing associations to get some contract work. He's also dropped a few thousand flyers (banking on the part of Essex he's in has a load of middle-aged and older people with cash and houses which haven't seen a paintbrush in 30 years).

Yeah that's pretty much how I'm going to go about it, it's going to be a mission I'm sure but if I can put the graft in and with any luck I'll be able to stay on my feet with the business
Get in contact with the local businesslink office ASAP.
You will get info on how to run a business but can also do a good bit of networking.
Also, in this climate, don't get into debt unless absolutely necessary. Things like a van aren't as necessary as a good bit of advertising which is considerably cheaper.
I work for a bank and most cashflow forecasts (if I am lucky to be given one) fail because they take on large overheads too soon. Keep it simple

And if things don't work out, you'll be referred to me at "High Street Bank" and I'll repossess your van and possessions. Lol.
