2 CB's
Playmaker
Striker

I'd settle for one CB if it's Cahill or Samba....reluctantly.

If we don't sign all those, then we are in trouble, simple as that.

Ideally we need 4+ players in my opinion. But I think we'll sign only one which will be Cahill eventually.

The only one I'm confident we'll sign is Yann M'Villa.

Ironically that's the only position where we actually have a youngster worth his salt coming through in Frimpong.

Got a feeling we'll see only one player come in. Would like to see 15-20 signings though...

When last season ended i think the general consensus was that we were in desperate need of a quality dcm, a quality Cb and a new predatory type striker, to give us a chance to compete for silverware. There was more that could have been done in an ideal world but that was the minimum required...That was the situation before we lost any players and before we raked in more wads of cash...

Now we are in a situation were on top of what we initially needed we have lost our world class ball player, an international full back, our back up striker and a quality wideman and only one of them has been replaced, if you can count Gervinho a replacement for Nasri...So now we need 3 players just to get back to where we were last season never mind advance... :banghead: :banghead:

If anyone but Wenger was in charge at least two of the first three needs would have been dealt with within the first few weeks of the transfer window...And then as and when others left they could have been replaced with the money received for them, but of course that would have been far too obvious and far too simple for our great leader...

So at a conservative estimate allowing for a couple of younger player to break through we need 4 quality players... :banghead: :banghead:

The sad thing is we will be lucky if we end up with two and we will be made to feel like the club have done some great business this summer and done the fans a big favour, even though we have gone heavily backwards again...

The sort of thing that should have happened this summer was...

Bought Diarra for 10-12m
Bought Cahill for 10-12m

Then we should have used the Cesc money for the likes of Sneijder
Bendtner money for the likes of Defoe
Clichy money for the likes of Enrique

What will likely happen is..

Last minute 12m purchase of Cahill
Last minute 10m purchase of relatively unknown central midfielder and we'll be assured he is the best thing since sliced bread and we didn't buy him cos he's cheap...

None of the clubs massive warchest spent, another 20m+ put in the bank, wage bill down and Wenger will tell us this is the best squad he's ever had... :x   :suicide:

Agree re 3-4 but 5 needed to really turn things around.

Cahill.

2 of Baines, Samba, Dann, Jagielka or Subotic (weaken Dortmund helps us in CL)

1 of Sneijder, Hazard, Gotze (Dortmund again), Thiago Alcontra (Barca) or Modric (why not, or do we wait for his contract to expire? :D )

A striker.

Interesting what BG said re what we should have done. Had I been in charge our business would have been done now with Friedel/Given, Enrique, Cahill/Dann, Samba, Parker, Alcontra (part of cesc deal) and Mata (with nasri money) at no more than minus £10m which would have been more than made up with other sales. Would just have been sorting the extra striker out if not already done.

All what if's, just hope next few days makes up for the last months of despair!

i think we need at least 4 players, CB, 2 midfielders and another striker - but even other areas are a worry

what happens if Chesney gets injured, can we rely on Fabianski or Mannone, LB Gibbs is always likely to get injured and Traore isn't good enough, Djourou and Squillachi are awful and we all know we ain't going to get a full season out of RVP, bound to miss a dozen games, sometime during the season

I am happy with Chesney, Jenkinson, Sagna, Gibbs, Vermaelen, Kosicenly, Frimpong, Song, Wilshire, Ramsey, RVP, Walcott, Gervinho

4 minimum . I expect between 0 and 3.

I cannot see us signing a LB at this stage, nobody decent available that we will go for.

He says he wants a striker, he better get one but again where, havent a clue.

CB hoping for Cahill/Jagielka.

Midfield wanted Parker and Barton, probably get neither. Maybe we will get M'Vila.

For me we need a minimum of four new signings but at the end of the day it doesnt matter if he signs 10 players if they are not proven quality now. I believe that he might make as many as two signings and both of these will be in early 20's (if even that old) and neither will be that "super quality" that we badly need  What is really really concerning me though is that he will sign no centre back at all :x Think about it for a moment.......he has had samba practically begging us to sign him, coyle advertising cahill's availability, bremen saying that mertesacker is available and despite all that we have only put in a derisory bid for cahill and a lower bid for jageilka than we had rejected last summer   If wenger really wanted a centre back he would have bought one now but he doesnt believe that there are any available centre backs better than kos, djouru or shittachi  :banghead:

By the way isnt there a contradiction in the theme of this thread ? The heading of the thread asks how many signings would it take to appease us but the question itself asks how many signings we are expecting to see and for me there is a huge gulf between those two answers :?
