I must say though this signing had better be accompanied with a rethink of the defensive line we play. Continue with our tactic of defending the half way line and trying to intercept and i fear mertesacker will be exposed. We need to defend deeper, even if it means creating a bit of a gap between our "banks of four".

Surely the bloke who is paid 6 million a year and reportedly spends most of his free time watching football can see that you keep the play infront of a player like mertesacker?
