Couldnt be bothered to read to the end, but it sounded good!augie wrote:Jacky Wilshere wrote:The article actually says that Wenger will spend a large chunk of the 50 million transfer budget on Goetze, with the paper reporting that the fee is likely to be around the 20 million mark.storrmin571 wrote:£50m according to the Daily Mail is what we are going to bid
Bloody welsh.....if they spent less time shagging sheep they might actually be able to read the articles correctly![]()

I know he will end up somewhere else sooner or later, as Dortmund is no "big club" (compared to Real Madrid, Barca, etc...even Arsenal). But there's absolutely no way he will leave in January. The rumour that the club would have to sell if they miss the knock-out stages of the CL is utter bollocks, that money is definitely NOT in the financial calculation for the season.TeeCee wrote:Wenger's been priced out of the Hazard deal so I think he will go for Goetze, and he has to go for him in January because we won't be in the CL next season so Wenger knows any decent signings will have to be made this January, so for once, I DO expect us to make a couple of signings.
However, if we lose to Dortmund at home in the CL and end up not qualifying then guess what? We won't be signing ANY decent players, for some considerable time!!
Guess that Dortmund will keep him until summer 2013 at least with his contract running until 2014. Though, wouldn't be sursprised if he signed a new deal either.
Mario Goetze is a top class player, with a superb mentality, costs serious money and doesn't speak any French. He will never sign for Arsenal!
Instead, expect Andre Ayew or Valbuena in January....
Agree with TeeCee though. Any serious quality signings will have to be made in Jan, because next summer Arsenal will be in the Europa League sadly...so it's Jan or bust as far as quality signings go for a loooong time!

Bit early to say that isn't it?Babatunde wrote: Agree with TeeCee though. Any serious quality signings will have to be made in Jan, because next summer Arsenal will be in the Europa League sadly...so it's Jan or bust as far as quality signings go for a loooong time!
Our main rivals are Liverpool, Sp*rs and Newcastle.
Despite our atrocious start, we're on the same points as Liverpool

Newcastle can't last, surely? they're in a false position in my opinion, and will slip down the table by early 2012.
And Sp*rs... well, they're on the same points with 2 games in hand... they look like they might be favourites for 4th to me, but they're not amazing by any stretch, so it wouldn't be the biggest of upsets if we managed to finish ahead of them, would it?
My views remain the same... We won't be relegated, we will finish top 6 and could finish 4th at best.

G88ner I stand by what I said a while ago mate. Arsenal aren't good enough to get CL football imo and I think because of the incompetent mismanagement over summer, Wenger doesn't deserve CL football. Sorry but I think we ain't good enough, and I think it's dismissive to say Newcastle are in a "false position". Newcastle are where they are because their manager made astute signings (Tiote, Cabaye), and their players work hard and seem to be playing for the shirt. They also have a good tactical system going.
Arsenal? Not impossible we get 4th of course but part of me thinks that would be a terrible thing to happen. Missing out on the CL will take Wenger/kroenke out of their comfort zone imo. Wenger will be under the cosh if that happens mark my words.
Personally, I think it'd take an epic cock-up for Spuds to not finish 4th.

I understand that I'm being a bit dismissive of Newcastle, but I really do think they're in a false position. Not that they don't deserve to be there of course, but I just can't see it lasting.Babatunde wrote:G88ner I stand by what I said a while ago mate. It's happened before with other clubs and usually they blow their load by Christmas.
The fixture list has been kind for a start...they haven't played Citeh, ManUre, Liverpool or Chelsea yet... and when they did play Arsenal & Sp*rs, it was at St James' and they drew both. They've beaten most of the lower opposition though, so credit to Pardew and the team for a cracking unbeaten start to the season.
I just think they'll be out of the top 6 by Christmas. That's my prediction.
I'm not meaning to be disrespectful to them, but if you look at their fixture list, you'll notice it's been kind.
I'm amazed by their consistency though - I thought they'd struggle.
LOL, just saw their next 3 league games....
Man City v Newcastle
Man Utd v Newcastle
Newcastle v Chelsea
