Poppies on the England Shirts

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Percy

If I start a thread about the price of fish and get 20 replies, would you deem that appropriate for "Arsenal Chat" ?

If I rarely came to your house would you not think it rude if I told you how to run it?

Also.if they do and are fined, should they pay the fine to the Poppy Appeal,and/or Help For Heroes, and see what FIFA make of that!!!
One more thing,am I right in thinking that WE were the first club to put Poppies on the Club shirts during the Rememberance period?
We were the first big club to do it in England, I think a scottish club did it first (Hearts?) then a few lower league clubs did it.

FIFA are a bit bollocks about it. A poppy is hardly a religious or political statement. If that's the case then all international badges must be banned from the shirts.

Not at all I just find it odd that your only comment on here tonight is a moan about forum use.

You haven't offered anything Arsenal related yourself so who are you to moan?

Buddy I have in the past questioned why Irish people wear poppies on english tv but there is a big difference between disagreeing with that policy than that of disagreeing with the rights of english people/clubs/players etc to show their respect to those who fought for their country. This thread is a thread started to have a serious pop at fifa and is as relevent to this forum as the thread about paddy's day that is on here every year so show the same level of respect that is shown to us Irish every March 17th

I don't really see what all the fuss is about. For 63 years after WWII until 2008, we never had poppies on shirts. It seems a little self-righteous to now demand that we be allowed to wear them, when we ourselves weren't bothered about it for so long.

Augie, I am saddened by the naivety of that post.
The whole poppy on the shirt thing was only brought in 2008.
Around the time Tony Blair was desperately trying to pretend that the invasion of Iraq wasn't about robbing vast quantities of oil. Its a PR stunt to try and lessen public opposition to the current exploits of the British Armed Forces on their endless campaigns to steal more oil rather than paying respect to those who fought Hitler etc.

And BTW, March 17th is not a day to pay respect to the fallen, that would be Easter Sunday.

On the other hand Cork, the use, syombolism and tradition of the poppy is real, and your theory is, well, just that.
