If you want to give it to a Middle Eastern country, ignoring the questionable reasons, why give it to a country that has fuck all but money... Why not give it to one with footballing heritage? Or a football-mad population?

You haven't disagreed with anything I've said  I just said I can't wait to go because it will be like it's in Bahrain. :barscarf:
Oh right. So on that theory why don't we hold the 2026 world cup in Enfield? :?:

Just because they're not streaming into the stadiums every weekend to see their own crap league doesn't mean they're not football-mad.

Have you seen Brazil vs Argentina in Doha? Sold-out match, fantastic atmosphere.

I have been to Oman and the UAE. I've seen kids playing football at the beaches of small Omani fishing villages, in shirts of European clubs. I've seen a UAE league (!) match with 32,000 spectators. The passion is developing fast in this region.

They love football down there. They mostly love to watch European club football. Don't judge them based on the level of their domestic footie. I guess you wouldn't go to The Arsenal if they were as "good" as Umm-Salal Sport Club...

Fair point, but why not just have the World Cup in England then?

First point being; why do you bother posting on here? All you do is try and wind people up.

Secondly; they have no footballing heritage. You could probably get 90k for Brazil Argentina anywhere in the world... and the UAE passion for football is far superior to that of Qatar, and IMO at least some passion for the domestic league is a requisite to be a proper footballing country.

And with regards to the last point.. bit of a ridiculous assumption, as you don't know me or my circumstances. I was never given a choice as to what football team I support and I doubt I would be if I was brought up anywhere else...

To be fair on GB, I don't think he was trying to wind you up. He's first few points were correct.

Big attendances are good seen as there population is only about 1.5 million.

The passion for football in the ME is increasing in all the Gulf states, like he said they mainly follow European teams and just walking around in malls it is evident to see that this is on the increase.

The network between the surrounding states is good so is a WC for the whole of the Middle East not just Qatar which opens it up to people/children who will never get to see such a tournament again.

Well, my personal favourites were England for 2018 and Qatar for 2022, but the FIFA commitee obviously didn't like the BBC revelations...

Jay, if their population is only 1.5 million why give such an insignificant country the world cup? Give it to a significant, and more liberal, Middle East country and more people would consider going; I'll go to Russia and Brazil but won't go near Qatar, I think it'll be shit FWIW...

..And I'd be very surprised if Qatar were chosen through entirely above board methods...

Like I said the links in the ME states around there are good so its not just for the 1.5 million in Qatar but those of Kuwait, Saudi, Bahrain, UAE, Oman.

Oh don't get me wrong, I know the whole process is bent but so is the whole of FIFA. I obviously prefer league football over the WC but it will be a brilliant period for the whole of the ME.
