ARSENE CANNOT COMPETE: Hamstrung by 17 man rule

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

See that would make sense wouldnt it which makes it all the more unlikely to happen  :banghead:
I would have thought that we would have at least made an approach to mutually terminate or release shitachi but after being brought on (at right back no less  ) v fulham that is highly unlikely

No, that would hurt their feelings. Much better to give them contract extensions instead.

This word stands out for me so will take with a pinch of salt. If however there is some truth to the fact that Squillaci, Chamakh, Diaby and Almunia are on around £60k a week then whoever agreed those contracts needs to be taken to task.
It is well documented by John Cross (very close to the club), that Diaby's move to Besiktas fell through because they were "only" offering £50k a week.

Do the maths.

And remember, Armand Traore's agent admitted that Benfica'a offer of £30k a week fell way short of what he was earning at Arsenal. Again: do the maths.

Money wasted....

Chamakh and Squid were free transfer after all.

Obviously with the aid of hindsight none of these players justify their wages

Tomas Rosicky: £1,420, 500 GBP
Johan Djourou: £1,320,000 GBP
Abou Diaby: £1,446,300 GBP
Lukasz Fabianski: £840,000 GBP
Manuel Almunia (zero PL minutes played): £1,538,000 GBP
Yao Gervinho: £1,212,000 GBP
Vito Mannone: £726,500 GBP
Those figures, if true, are shocking, but it does explain why we can't get rid of Squillaci and Almunia.

I assume wages are the reason we've not been able to sell Denilson, Bendtner or Vela either, and instead have ended up loaning them out.

As for Chamakh... I'm not surprised because signing players on a free means you often pay a premium on wages, but even so - disastrous signing.

Then there's Arshavin, who doesn't even put the effort in for his wages.

I'm so frustrated by the quality of our "large squad"... it's just shite outside of the starting XI.

I'm stumped at the first part before I fully read on...17 non-domestic rule? Can you clarify a bit more?

Now that's good work if you can get it. :banghead:

That's the princly sum of 72,315 quid per minute that bean headed sick note c**t has fleeced our club of.
Yes, but you'd have to admit they were 20 minutes of absolute quality and a mere taste of what's possible and still to come from the great man!! 8)

(Oops, sorry - thought I was SteveO for a second there.)
Never fear IHH (or SteveO for that matter!!), the good news is our glorious leader said this about our beloved bean headed hypochondriac -

"It is a slight muscular problem, he'll be out for around 10 days."

Sadly he said this on the 9th December
.
You have to laugh at our injury estimations :coffeespit:

If they were estimators in Print or in insurance the companies would have gone down years ago :awnker:  :banghead:

It's like it says on the tin - there's a Premier League (or is it UEFA?) rule which states each club is only allowed to register a maximum 17 non-domestic players within their 25 man squad.

Isn't there something about "homegrown" players though? I don't think Cesc was counted as "non-domestic" :?:

I think that's because foreign born players that came through the youth ranks are counted as 'domestic' players.

isn't it something like "the player must've been trained in england for at least two years before his 18th birthday"?

or is this from the champions league?
