Bloody sad news about your close friend, DB.

Glad you're coping reasonably well.

It's at times like this that you count your blessings.

And speaking of blessings, I'd like to share some good news with you all....a little 11 year old girl I know has spent half her life in hospital with cancer and heart problems. She recently had a heart transplant. It was her last chance. She's come through the operation ok. Has got stronger. And is going home today. :barscarf: :barscarf: :barscarf:

Sometimes a bit of good news takes away some of the hurt that we all suffer, from time to time. Hope this helps anyone who is suffering at this moment.

Her name is Megan. It doesn't matter that people don't know her personally. It's just a wonderful thing that people wish her well. Human nature. Wonderful thing. 8)

shit, really sorry to hear that db, not around here as much such did realise.

All my thoughts with you mate, a very sad story.

Alcohol is a beast if it takes over you life, I like yourself and many have seen it ruin lives of friends my age and younger and im only 29. But I've also seen someone really turn it around, one of my best mates, who lost the plot, was on the edge, worked, finshed and drank till he lost control 12+ pints (after a 13 hour working day), days off = wake up and head down to the get some beers first thing, he'd get really violent when totally gone and one night went for basically everyone.....THANK GOD this happened. Because it woke him up, and the guy has totally taken control of his life. He gave up the drink. But he's had a couple of nights out e.g. birthdays and special events, where he's had a few pints and stayed in control, but the next day didnt go back to it and went on without it. Drinks once or twice a year now.

It all boils down to personal strength. And the really hard and sad thing about Alcoholics and anyone with any type of drug problem or addictive peronality, is they dont listen/ or arent really capable of doing so. Hence it becomes a personal battle, and friends and family can do all they can but it boils down to the individual to make the choice and effort to fight the addiction.

My point is DB im sure you done all you could and were a good friend to the guy and hopefully he is now at peace.

My thoughts are with you fella.

DB10GOONER wrote:Just a brief post to say thanks to the regulars that contacted me to check I was ok during my recent absence. I'm fine. Just went through a bad spell there for a couple of weeks after one of my oldest and closest friends sadly passed away suddenly a couple days before Xmas. He was only 39.

I just wasn't in the right place to deal with all the petty whining and bitching that has ruined this forum of late.

My mate Alski was a die hard Gooner and a great bloke but his life was ruined by alcoholism - he lost his job, his family even his home. He literally drank himself to death.

I'll miss him forever but I feel he is in a better place now and if any of you are religious please say a prayer for my mate Alski. A top top bloke that died way too fucking young.

Anyway, thanks for the concern. It's good to see we still have a few decent genuine people on here.

Sorry to hear that DB...sincere best wishes to you and his family.

May He "Rest In Peace".
