Winning with foreigners?

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

1. 1 Year and a half (since move to emirates)
2. Born in Essex and influenced by my cousin.
3.Don't really mind as long as they are talented and not a waste of space.
4.No
5.We use are youth set up more than most clubs, but don't neccersarily bring english players through it.

1. How long have you supported the club?
Since the day i was born 8) otherwise from about the age of 6 when i went to my first game

2. What reasons do you have for supporting Arsenal?
My ol man (my Dad), i couldn't support anyone else with him around plus i'm a local

3.What is your opinion on the number of foreign players in English football?
All the english players are in the lower leagues & this to me means that there not what the premiership needs because there not good enough otherwise we'd be full of english players

4.Would you prefer Arsenal to play more english born players in their side and be less succesful as a club?
No because we seem to have less talent with english players

5. Do you think Arsenal should invest more money in their youth setup rather than buying foreign players?
There have a good youth system already with plenty of english players coming through the ranks

Hiya Wayno,

Yeah, long time no post. I have got a new job and it's rock hard! I haven't had much time for Arse-ing about on the Gooner website.

Still, Sydney is great. They show Premiership games all week in the pubs, so I can either stay up late and watch live on the internet (preferred, but not always possible), or watch it "as live" later on in the week. What a civilised place! Shame they don't have real English beer, otherwise it would be perfect.

1. 36 years(since 70-71)
2. They were the best team at the time I became interested in football.
3. I don't mind. Makes no difference to me what colour/race/country they come from. They have to be good players and dedicated to the club,
4.Neither for or against.
5.I think we do enough already.

1. As long as I can remember, im 17, so umm... say 14 years or so.
2. Family
3. I think its good for the English game, it gives the league i higher standard of football. At least 50% of players in the PL are English, so to say that english players don't get enough oportunities is utter rubbish.
4. Of course not.
5. The majority of our players come through our youth system, so no.

No problem for help.

1. How long have you supported the club? Since I was about 7. So 8 years.

2. What reasons do you have for supporting Arsenal? I just love Arsenal. Its hard to explain. Thats just how it is.

3.What is your opinion on the number of foreign players in English football? I don"t care if your from Germany, England Wales or Trinidad and Tobago at the end of the day football should judged by the quality of the player not this @t about people saying we need more English. You should play the best players and if your not good enough your not good enough. The Premiership is the best league in the world for a reason and it is because if you are good enough you play.

4.Would you prefer Arsenal to play more english born players in their side and be less succesful as a club? Obviously no. As I say it doesn"t matter where you come from if you are good enough you are good enough.

5. Do you think Arsenal should invest more money in their youth setup rather than buying foreign players? Is that a serious question? Our youth academy has produced almost all our team just not Englands. I will take a certain Cesc Fabregas as my example along with Kolo Toure, Gael Clichy and Emmanual Eboue. And if you want English prospects I take David Bentely, Steve Sidwell and James Harper.

What's wrong with Aussie beer? You obviously aren't drinking the right type! And if you are, then you aren't drinking enough!! (Not that I drink though...I judge beer by their ad campaigns  )

Justin, not sure you're quite right on all this: Cesc was a Barca youth product, Kolo and Eboue came from Ivorian side Mimosas both aged 21 (Eboue via Beveren in Belgium) and Clichy came through the ranks at Cannes. Wenger and Brady have been good at developing youth players but have been at least as good at taking semi-finished players and getting the best out of them.

2 Was born in the footballing desert called Slough. Luckily all my cousins were part of the great N London Irish community and went with one to my first game in 69.
3 The only issue is that it now seems fashionable to have foreigners before Brits and brits are way too expensive.
4 no
5 This has been eloquently answered by loads of people above. We spend a fortune.
