The Arsenal Jumble Sale

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Isn't the problem though that where a player has time left on his contract then to sell him we have to pay him the remaining wages on the contract unless he puts in a transfer request or you do a deal with him? I suspect that Arsenal are loathed to ever pay out money in this way and therefore just having a clear out can be an expensive business and reduce what you then have available to spend on replacements.
But of course you also have to factor in that Wenger views the squad in a completely different way to us. He actually doesn't think that many of these players are us pony as we do :banghead:

Walnut is a great opportunity that could fall into our lap - offer him a much lower wage than he is seeking, force him into turning it down so that we can state publicly that we had to sell him cos he only has 1 year left on contract 8) This scenario would pacify the jcl's who think the brainless fool is great, it will pacify the older fans like me who think that he is shit and want him gone plus it would probably bring in a tidy sum to use towards strengthening our defensive midfielder and centre forward options 8) If we are to continue playing the same system then we already have podolski, the ox, ryo and the forehead for those positions so we can afford to let one go and feo would bring in more funds than the forehead
How about the older fans like me who dont want him gone but isnt a JCL or rosetinter? :?

A padded room awaits

And while I am not disagreeing with that line of thought, I will also add that his inclusion at or near the top of my list is down to the fact that this summer we either sell him or reward him with a bumper contract cos he only has 12 months remaining on his current deal..........I know which of the two options makes more sense to me

Youre right augie. Its not a case that he is as not shit as some of our other players(Chamakh Park Squillaci). But that his contract is up next season and he wants a contract worth £100k a week.We all know he's not worth that.So we get rid.Now is the time to cash in while Dalglish is still in charge or we are stuck with him for 4 more years saying he's still young he will learn to cross a ball one day

RioGooner wrote:Vela will sell for far more then £3mil, Real Sociedad is very keen in keeping him, as he's got a 0.5 goal scoring average with them. He might sell for 6 or 7 mil.

São Paulo wanted to keep denilson as a loanee, Arsenal is the one wanting to sell. So I figure we'll sell him for pretty much any fee.
I do hope you're right Rio. Personally if we get offered 6 or 7 magic beans, I'd offer to drive the little fucker there myself

The club tried to terminate his deal but Augie led a secret ballot of AKBs to keep one of his heroes at the club a while ago :barscarf:
