Is it time to ditch the International tournos?

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

"Well-toned". Latin for "John Candy-esque". :-P

Cor, swap the word football for sex, and you've got my bedroom antics with the wife summed up in one sentence.

I've voted 'meh' as for me since Euro 2004 international tournaments have really gone down hill. It's just my opinion that Blatter and Platini arefecking it up big time, not only that the lack of gooners that have played for England in the last 10 years just makes it a waste of time. I do hope though that one day it will go back to how it was. :(

this is the last great Euros.

In 2016 when there are 24 teams it will be really bad.
Euro qualifying should be easy though - even Scotland should get there

Its been a fantastic tournament. The Euros are always better than the World cup lately, too many shite teams in the World Cup. They also seem to put the World Cup in the worst places on earth for football to spread it out or some shit. The temperature in these places fucks it up. When its in Quatar it will be pathetic. I think there might be an underlying issue here. Most people here are English/Irish and our teams were boring and the shittest in the tournament. Alot of English people dont seem to care about it either, mind you its the same in France.

Depends on the person really, for me I would support Ireland before Arsenal certainly. I'm not from London so its not the same. Also I feel year by year I give less of a fuck about Arsenal than I did before. Ever since we moved from Highbury and the oil barons started buying trophies club football has not been the same.

I would get rid of the Premier League first. At least you cant buy the Euros or World cup.

I think partially I've just lost the habit of being able to watch & enjoy a football match on its own merits, without the "emotional investment" of giving a fuck who wins being at stake. Cant be arsed with la liga etc so pretty much every game I watch throughout the season is either Arsenal, or supposedly affects us (seemingly endless these days with the increasing super importance of the Top 4 Trophy :barscarf: ), or just involves wanting a team I hate to get beat (again an increasing phenomenon with the number of *word censored* multiplying tenfold every season).

As a result you just get locked in to watching football in an increasingly negative way… any appreciation of technical ability, or the tactical battle etc, is surpassed by 90 mins of just hoping monkeymuppet has a shocker, or Cech drops a clanger, or someone's laced Delap's towel with anthrax. Add in the overall disillusionment with Arsenal and the Supermegabreakingnewspremierleague in general, and by the time these tournaments come around you end up going into it unrealistically expecting it to be a breath of fresh air. In reality you just end up bored shitless by games you have no vested interest in, and countless shots of wankers in the crowd who think painting your face every colour under the sun until you look like you've been bukkaked by the man from Del Monte achieves anything other than making you look like a humongous communal rainbow of wank.Cut a long story short, football as a whole's gone a bit shit.

And yet still I've watched most games. And then written a long post about it. Fuck sake.

the tournaments do seem to be getting worst, the last decent one for me was the WC in the USA, some right upsets and some cracking goals

apart from Italia 90 and Euro 96, England have been pretty shite in most of them, and the future looks fucking bleak

Naaaaah, I like tournament football. Provides another opportunity to laugh at the Irish in the very rare times they actually participate in them. :-P
