I wouldn't mind so much if they just maintained a yellow kit (with blue. Not 'redcurrant' or grey, blue.) every other year and tinkered the other year.

yeah adidas only makes kits for huge clubs like saint-ettiene, djugardens, brondby, zaragoza, besiktas... why would they have any interest in a team that plays champions league football nonstop for over a decade? it would surely be horrible for their reputation :?

they only supply top class clubs:

Have you seen how many League 2 clubs are supplied by Nike now?

I remember about 10 years ago where us, Rangers, Barcelona and PSG were the only teams who had nike, they are marketing whores now

Stan will probably do a Southampton from a few years ago and invent their own kit supplier so AFC can keep all the profit from kit sales :banghead:

As has been said before, one or two of our financial staff (ivan I think) used to work for nike, plus nike is an american company so I would be surprised if they left nike

Nike's major sponsorships have always been about sponsoring "the best". That's part of their branding strategy. Arsenal probably no longer fits that framework, and thus they aren't willing to give Arsenal significant money for their kit agreement. Adidas just lost Liverpool, and it's likely no secret that Arsenal fans have become increasingly disappointed with the Nike kits over the last few seasons. It could be a good "buy" for Adidas and a good "bye" for Nike (hehe I'm so clever)

For those that don't know, Nike will be taking over from Umbro (who they are selling off) in 2013/2014 as the kit suppliers of Manchester City. Further evidence they don't really need the Arsenal deal.

I suspect the Everton sponsorship was that Everton thought they could sell more kits with a more recognized brand than Le Coq Sportif or their other lesser-known companies... and they probably avoided Adidas because the 3 stripes are still pretty synonymous with their cross town rivals in the eyes of their supporters.

So there appears to be good reason to believe that this rumor could be true.

I also don't believe Adidas gave up on Liverpool because of a lack of success. Commercially speaking Liverpool continues to be one of the top merchandise sellers. I believe the "lack of success" comment was a parting shot fired at Liverpool after they decided to jump onto the New Balance (Warrior) bandwagon (plus I doubt Adidas considered LFC good value at that insane 20m/season sponsorship deal and were not moved to match/beat it).

if this is any true, then why does adidas and not nike supply for spain and real madrid, for example?

honestly, i think adidas and nike are both brands that supply for top teams, and any link between team success and brand of the kit doesn't make much sense.

if this rumour about adidas is true then i'd be glad because adidas makes kits that are much more suitable to my taste, but that's a bit personal. i can't see an adidas kit as horrible as this purple away kit for example. but again, that's personal taste.

On that subject has anyone seen Southamptons home kit for this season? Total pony, they look like Barnsley.

Hmm Liverpool have had some pretty horrific white and green away kits.

Do agree with you though, I generally prefer Adidas kits. I hope that if Adidas get the deal then we'll have a kit similar to the late 80s/early 90s, something like this: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_dP755iC8MZQ/T ... 8-1990.gif
Somebody put up a mock-up of what a modern Adidas Arsenal kit might look like on Twitter and it was pretty similar to this.
