AUGIE (FOR PROBABLY ONE OF THE ONLY TIMES OUT OF HIS PLETHORA OF CONTRIBUTIONS! ) IS RIGHT ABOUT ANELKA. AS I UNDERSTAND IT, ONCE YOU HAVE PLAYED IN ONE EUFA COMPETITION, YOU CAN'T THEN PLAY IN ANOTHER - OR FOR A DIFFERENT TEAM - IN THE SAME SEASON.

NIKMAN 89, I ALSO HEARD SOMEONE ON SKY MENTION THAT BUT THEY WERE WRONG!! ADEBAYOR WASN'T AVAILABLE FOR US IN OUR 2005/6 CHAMPIONS LEAGUE CAMPAIGN BECAUSE HE HAD PLAYED IN THE EUFA CUP FOR HIS PREVIOUS CLUB BEFORE JOINING US IN JANUARY 2006. YOU WOULD THINK THAT PEOPLE WHOSE BUSINESS IT IS TO KNOW ABOUT SPORT WOULDN'T MAKE SUCH A FUNDAMENTAL ERROR AS THAT ONE.

AS FOR YOUR QUESTION: THE ANSWER IS YES. MAN UNITED OR MOST PROBABLY CHELSEA (REMEMBER THEY'LL HAVE DROGBA BACK FOR EUROPE) WOULD BUY HIM FOR THEIR PREMIERSHIP CHALLENGE THIS SEASON, AND HE WOULD OF COURSE BE AVAILABLE NEXT YEAR FOR ALL COMPS.

Lifted from the Arsenal.com website

Arsene Wenger will NOT add to his squad during the January transfer window.

The Arsenal manager loses Ivory Coast duo Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Eboue to the African Nations Cup in the New Year but believes he has enough resources to cope without them.

Wenger's hand has been strengthened because Alex Song has not been called up to the Cameroon squad for the six-week tournament in Ghana.

"At the moment we have no information that Alex Song is going," said Wenger.

"We have Johan Djourou coming back from Birmingham and we lose Kolo and Eboue but in midfield we have plenty of players who can play."

When pressed, Wenger admitted there was one circumstance in which he might consider a purchase. "If I was offered the bargain of the century," he smiled.

But do we really believe him

I am not expecting us to get a result up there, it is a tough place at the moment as they are playing well.

I do expect us to offload a few players in January and would certainly like to see a few come in, but isn't this the same for us every transfer window, lots of hope and expectation but very seldom anything to get really excited about

IT'S A TOUGH PLACE EVEN AT THE BEST OF TIMES WAYNO!! THEIR CROWD REALLY GET ON THE REFEREE'S BACK AND IT WILL NEED A TOUGH ONE TO HANDLE THE UNDOUBTED PRESSURE HE WILL BE PUT UNDER.

LET'S JUST HOPE IT'S NOT HOWARD WEBB (ONLY 4 WINS IN 19 MATCHES WHEN HE'S BEEN IN CHARGE OF OUR MATCHES) OR THAT DICK-HEAD MIKE RILEY, WHO IS A WELL-KNOWN 'HOMER' (AND I AIN'T TALKING SIMPSON EITHER!!) :x

THE TRUTH IS THAT I WOULD GLADLY TAKE A POINT HERE AND NOW IF IT WERE OFFERED TO ME.

I would take a point right now too. I just hope we put in a performance that we can be proud of, one that raises our spirits a notch or two.

IT SEEMS THAT BOTH AUGIE AND I WERE WRONG ON THIS MATTER. I HEARD ON SKY SPORTS NEWS THIS AFTERNOON THAT EUFA RULES NOW STATE THAT YOU CAN ADD 3 PLAYERS TO YOUR CHAMPIONS LEAGUE SQUAD, OF WHICH 1 CAN HAVE PLAYED IN ANOTHER COMPETITION (I.E. IN THIS CASE, THE EUFA CUP).

THEREFORE, ANYONE BUYING ANELKA OR BERBATOV WOULD INDEED HAVE THEM AVAILABLE FOR THEIR CHAMPIONS LEAGUE GAMES, DESPITE THE PLAYERS HAVING ALREADY APPEARED IN EUROPE FOR OTHER CLUBS. :(

With Toure and Song missing i dont think the Boss will sell Gilberto in the jan window since he is a decent backup CB .

Also the Flanimal has not yet accepted the new contract that he has been offered , if he wants he can leave on a Bosman . Untill his deal is signed it might be unwise to sell Diarra .

Not that I think we'll sign him but Downing is underrated - he'd be a good addition to the squad and would give us a left-sided alternative to Rosicky.

Sounds like Anelka will go to Chelsea. Not only will help them in the league with their only good striker, Drogba, now both injured and at ACN, but thanks to Wenger it may also help them resolve a problem in the Champs' League. I think Anelka's time at Arsenal may qualify him as Association trained, meaning they could add him to their Euro squad without displacing another player. If that's right, they should send Wenger a thank you card.
