I don't really follow it anywhere near as closely as I used to, but i'm really not a fan of Serato/Traktor in turntablism, where they've got all their instrumentals running from a laptop & the same two vinyls on the decks for the whole 6 minutes. Half the skill for me was always seeing DJs being able to get one record off, the next one on & cued up properly within seconds.
Anyone who's into hip-hop & turntablism should really watch "Scratch" if you've not seen it before;

Swift is a legend, I was there at the Albert Hall when he won the world title in 1989.
DJing is not as easy as it looks to some.
DB10Gooner hates it because it involves a sense of rhythm and timing.
As opposed to setting an amp to full volume and wantonly strumming a guitar fantasising about being Jimmy Page.
Cannot accept that ANY single DJ has anything beyond the most basic sense of timing in 4/4. I can play in 3/4, 7/4, 4/4, 5/4. You name it, DJ JazzyQuartz, I can play in it.
For the record, Jimmy Page was good at what he did. But what he did was at the "basic" end of the guitar playing spectrum. He was quite limited technically and really just a riff writer at best. Not an insult to Page, they were great riffs and formed the basis of great songs, but he doesn't come near the likes of Randy Rhoads, EVH, Yngwie Malmsteen, Steve Vai, John Petrucci, Paul Gilbert, Richie Blackmore and Joe Satriani (to name but a few!) for technical playing and mastering the instrument.
Your average 14 year old shredder could blow Page out of the water now days!

I am not a DJ though, as a Hip Hop fan I am just speaking up for them.
I checked out some of those guitarists you mention, having only heard of Blackmore off the top of my head.
It is all very technically excellent, but a bit "Hlebbish".
What is the end result?
Some good tunes for sure, but quite a lot of noise too.
DJs these days are akin to producers; they cut n scratch and transform and juggle and sample other tunes live and play drums machines live and synths too.
I would though take a good pianist,
drummer or
bassist over a good DJ or Axeman any day.
Sorry DJ JazzyQuartz, shouldn’t laugh but it just reminds me of the old band maxim; “a band is 4 musicians and a drummer”. Also, most bassists are failed guitarists. Not all, but most...

I much prefered the football related challenges (i.e. recreating the Henry goal)
