Sebastian Frey

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I think that unless wenger has full confidence that the up and coming Fabianski can turn into a world class keeper (from the Blackburn game I don't think he could be a 1st teamer) he should be prepared to splash the cash.

The keeper position isn't one you can wait to reap the rewards for and can make the difference between the champions and the also rans, i.e. the Chavs and Cech in 2005, Shilton and Forest in 1978.

Don`t think he is too expensive, 5-6 million pounds I`m sure will be enough

I too hate it donaldo when we use the phrase "too expensive for wenger" but we use it cos it is apt. The man does not like spending big money and of late prefers to buy potential rather than proven quality. I know some fans will point to his purchases of players that did cost big like reyes and say that they hardly turned out to be successes but if that was the case then he would stop shopping for bargain price players too cos cheapies like stepanovs didnt set the world alight either did they :?:

Frey? No chance. Please! The guy didn't even make France's 2006 World Cup squad, even with that clown Barthez between the sticks. I know AW can't pick a keeper but he'll stay away from Frey! Buffon would be the big pick and pry from Juve, doubtful! But the number one keeper in the last 5 years of the Premier League is undoubtedly Shay Given, 31 years old and perfect for experience, and easily an achievable signing for £3-£5 million I'd reckon.

I really hope Lehmann stays till the summer but if he does go next month, I could live with Given, would like Buffon (though Juve would never sell), but please, no Robert Green, he's just not good enough. Frey would be ok but frankly we can and should aim higher.

And Fabianski isn't ready and Almunia, as we all know, may well be good enough for England but isn't good enough to be first choice for Arsenal.
