UEFA Plan Changes to C.League

Post by OneBardGooner »

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20523405

"European football's governing body Uefa is considering ditching the Europa League in favour of extending the Champions League from 32 to 64 teams.
"We're discussing it. We will make a decision in 2014. Nothing is decided yet," Uefa president Michel Platini told French newspaper Ouest-France.
It means seven English clubs and five Scottish teams could enter at a qualifying round stage.
Uefa is looking at changing the format of European competitions from 2015.
"There is an ongoing debate to determine what form the European competitions will have between 2015 and 2018," added Platini.

An extension of the group stages to a 64-team format could see seven English clubs qualify for the competition rather than the current four, and increase the number of Scottish teams participating from two to five.
The Europa League has been criticised by some since it replaced the Uefa Cup in 2009 and exists in the shadow of the more lucrative Champions League."

Well, seeing as sixth is the new fourth I'm this will please Le Prof!

Lunatics.
Not content with ruining the European Championships by extending them from a well thought out 16 teams to a baffling 24, they now want to have five Scottish teams!
Have they ever watched Scottish football?

I am all for changes to the moribund Europa League Cup Trophy Tournament Competition, but I think the Champions League is currently about right.

Better still when we're celebrating 18 consecutive years of CL last 64 finishes :D , Lord Wenger will be lined up at the press conference at Motherwell saying "we have shown a remarkable consistency and proven that there are many ways to achieve success"

Those saying the CL should be for just the league winners only are saying Arsenal will never play in it again in our lifetime

At least with 7 places we will just creep in every year :barscarf:

When we draw Barcelona, celebrate a 2-2 home draw like we've won the thing before getting a 4-1 drubbing in the Nou Camp you'll be glad we miss the whole sorry thing

Can't Capital One sponsor a new tournament that we can win in Europe?

What?!

I thought 5th was the new 3rd! And 7th was the new 4th... What in the goddamned fuck has 6th got to do with it? Does finishing 6th now equate with winning the FA Cup? Actually, it probably does... in Wengerland... :?

:rubchin:

I'm fucking lost now, man... :(

Yep here we go again;

:suicide:

imagine the drivel we'd have to listen to from Wenker about tired players etc everytime we lost in the league after the extended champs league game with even more games to play, maybe it could be extended to the top 18 english clubs that way even with our 'fatigue' we'd still creep in every year at whatever position we finish in.it wont be long before the virtual trophy will be just belonging to the premier league according to our board and its not the winning but taking part :banghead:
