Re: Are the board regreting not letting judas go on a bosman
DB-TH They are doing it deliberatly, offer him a shite deal (1 year no wage rise if the rumors are true), knowing full well he won't except so they than can cash in now. When away from the spread sheet we as fans know the true value of players like rvp, wally, sagna etc. It's not just the sale though, when we sell to pl teams we directly affect our own chances, and when we continuously sell top players it becomes harder to attract top players.

Re: Are the board regreting not letting judas go on a bosman
1) The board would never have taken that much of a gamble. Even quantifying it properly (and therefore setting off the transfer fee and wages paid for Giroud, who was clearly a straight replacement) the board wouldn't risk £14m plus a few million more in extra wages and ending up with no striker in June 2013. We all know that's not how they run things and I'm sure they would never have contemplated or thought twice about keeping him.
2) His statement made his position untenable. It was pathetic and self-serving. That's what really stuck in the craw, more so than the years of injuries. The fact that he came out and slated the club, and therefore also indirectly the manager and the other players, whilst captain made it nigh-on impossible to make him honour his contract.
The way the club conducts itself in the transfer market and in contract negotiations is a disgrace. And we should never have got in the situation where he felt he couldn't stay because of our limited ambition. But, in very limited defence of the club, it would have been inappropriate to offer him a bumper long-term deal at any point before the start of last season, and he refused to discuss a new deal until the summer, and then made it impossible for us to keep him (not that we would have).

I said this at the time as well. His goals were worth more than £20-25M and he still had a year on his contract. He forced the move by releasing that statement.

you can't keep players who aint happy and want to go - if we did, this season he would of either sulked and did less in a match than Chamakh
or pretend to get a strange injury that wouldn't heal till next May and we would of been paying he's salary for nothing just like the previous seasons.
we miss he's goals and ability, but we had to get rid, if he was disillusion with the way the club was going

i see what you are saying northbank, lets face it the 20mill we got for him is neither here nor there,40mill plus then i think you are getting into serious money but for a club like Arsenal the 20m we got for him is no great shakes,id have prefered him to stay until his contract ran out,the season so far would be looking a damn site rosier had he still been here meaning possible silverware(doubtful but you never know)meaning more revenue in prize money probably greater than the 20m we got for him.anyone who is glad we sold him is kidding themselves,it makes you as bad a penny pincher as our cretinus board imho

A bit of a scoop from North Bank 1987 - that RVP left Arsenal on a Bosman and yet the club tell the world it was for £24m.
Fucking Pravda.

Re: Are the board regreting not letting judas go on a bosman
They won't be regretting it at all, for 24 million reasons I can think of.....and lets face it with these clowns what else matters. We sold our best player AGAIN, everyone moaned for 10 minutes AGAIN, then filled up the stadium spending thousands AGAIN and AGAIN, and we can still easily win the Virtual Trophy AGAIN.
Errr....and everybody will fall for it next Summer AGAIN

Re: Are the board regreting not letting judas go on a bosman
The problem was though Quartz is that he (judasVP) was holding out for more than just a Big Wage Rise...He was asking for assurances that the club (manager) would bring in some 'Serious' talent...not average(ish) £10 mill signings (or poor one's if you include Klingon)....we had the Mata deal more or less all sorted, then we (the club) haggled over some last minute stuff, bonuses etc....and we lost him to the chavs who didn't quibble over such things...and whilst I still think judasVP IS a *word censored* who betrayed us...he might have stayed had the club/manager been willing to spend some dosh!....And as for Theo I agree, we should pay him...But, again we will lose him because of Wenker's & the boards scrooge approach to contracts...QuartzGooner wrote:No.
I do not think the board regret getting £22-24M for Van Persie with a year left on his contract.
I think they should have paid him what he was worth and kept him.
Yes.
I think the board will have seriously messed up if Walcott goes on a free, he should either have been sold for good money 18 months before his deal was up, or been compelled to sign a new deal.
The club should never have been in this situation again after Flamini left for free.
I think the board should pay Theo what he is worth and keep him.
Which is why there needs to be changes throughout every layer of the club, unfortunatley Kroenke's going nowhere neither is Wenker - so we are FUCKED!.

No way would he have performed in the same way as last season. Or like he has this season for United. He would have sulked and moaned and been on the back pages of the paper every fucking week. Still much better than what we've got but not 30+ goals a season.markyp wrote:i see what you are saying northbank, lets face it the 20mill we got for him is neither here nor there,40mill plus then i think you are getting into serious money but for a club like Arsenal the 20m we got for him is no great shakes,id have prefered him to stay until his contract ran out,the season so far would be looking a damn site rosier had he still been here meaning possible silverware(doubtful but you never know)meaning more revenue in prize money probably greater than the 20m we got for him.anyone who is glad we sold him is kidding themselves,it makes you as bad a penny pincher as our cretinus board imho
I really wouldn't go throwing insults round when you reckon we would have netted more than his transfer fee in prize money. We could only earn about £2m more if we actually won the league, there's fuck all money for winning the domestic cups and the prize money for winning the Champions League is a bit less than £20m more than last 16. So basically, if we won EVERYTHING then the prize money might cover the transfer fee. And the board don't share your view that £20m+ isn't "serious money", and after all the board's perceptions are what the thread is for.
Although tbh I personally wasn't that disappointed we decided to sell. The damage was done long before the sale. And we all know that that £24m shortfall would have had to be made up somewhere else, probably through selling Wilshere next season.

RvP wanted to be paid what he was worth, but he wanted to STAY.OneBardGooner wrote:The problem was though Quartz is that he (judasVP) was holding out for more than just a Big Wage Rise...He was asking for assurances that the club (manager) would bring in some 'Serious' talent...not average(ish) £10 mill signingsQuartzGooner wrote:No.

This is the unpalatable truth for Arsenal fans.
His statement was only released when he had reached the end of the negotiations.
It was tasteless, but said what most of this Forum feels anyway.
The club could easily have kept him but chose to let him go, preferring to sign Giroud and bank the profit, and give the likes of Ramsey (honest hardworking player but in terrible post injury form) a new deal.
Same situation with Walcott.
I was angry at RvP; now I am just sad for us, run by Kroenke and Wenger.
Re: Are the board regreting not letting judas go on a bosman
I don't blame RVP one tiny little bit. A quality player who seems to have overcome his injury problems at last, at the very top of his game pretty consistently, and he had to trot out onto the pitch week in week out with dross like Ramsey, Gervinho and Denilson. He got to the stage where he thought 'I'm one of the top strikers in Europe' (alongside Bendtner), I have one last big contract/chance to win trophies and earn big money......what can I get at Arsenal.............certainly no trophies and about half of the money I can earn at a big club.
No brainer, he made totally the right move.

Make no mistake although Jack is signing a new contract he will be gone the same way as RVP in 18 months time if nothing changes at the club ie change of manager and Kroenke out.A new contract only means we will get a big fee for him.If he hadnt been out for 18 months he may have gone this summer

I agree with quartz that most of what he said was true, but it was very tasteless. I don't blame him in all honesty more the club.
I know this is touching on the board thread a bit, but how on earth is Dick Law meant to handle contract negotiations from Dallas? Surely you need someone a bit nearer, what exactly happens then? Wenger phones Dick, "Hi Dick can you wake up at 3am, give Sagna's agent a bell, and tell him we're putting the handbrake on the lenth of his contract and only offering a year extension?" To which Dick would enthusiatically reply, "Sure Arsene, have a nice day."
