FIVE New Contracts Signed

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I'd also love us to sign a British League One or Two style centre back, someone who can just tackle, head and smash the ball for miles. I reckon if we can find that player he would go on to be a legend.
I agree but first we'd have to get a new manager cause unfortunately Wenger would never sign a centre half like that.

you have to love the Arsenal business model -take one highly paid, highly rated, under-achieving young player, and garnish with a pay rise and longer contract.

he now has zero incentive to step up. :banghead:

anyone else would let them go as a failure/mistake and move on, or put them on a pay or play deal for 12months.

not us. :banghead:

I really do not care that Jenkinson is a Gooner but I do care about a player being the best we possibly can have in that position and Jenkinson is anything but that!

If your childhood allegiance to the club is somehow a positive that gives you more grace than others then we may as well play Frank Warren at right back.

Ramsey?

As BrazilianGooner said, could be to raise his profile/value ahead of a sale?

Can't see it, to be honest. He's here to stay.

If I was Bacary Sagna who after all has nothing for the Arsenal but work his fucking arse off getting two broken legs for his troubles but battled back to play well again I would feel insulted seeing my understudy who is a mediocre Premier league player at the very best get a new improved contract.
To see Gibbs an injury prone mediocre premiership player get the same treatment I would start to get angry .
To See Ramsey who is a mediocre championship player at best ,get an massive pay rise for putting in shit performances week in week out ,I would be seething with rage and never want to play for the club again !

How about when Wenger gets a nice long contract extension and pay rise next year?

Unfortunately I've resigned myself to it ,in fact I've resigned myself to this situation lasting for the foreseeable future.
Fortunately living in Singapore I don't have to make the decision whether to go or not .
I have a small son a lovely missus who I can devote my time to at weekends and just see myself not watching that much !
My Arsenal isn't coming back but Il hang on to the season tickets until my 25 year old has had enough and then make a decision.

^This 100%. Continuing to reward players that fail to perform week in and week out says everything about what is wrong with this Club.

No wonder all these young players want to sign for us, coz even if the fuck up and fail miserably they'll still leave with shed loads of wonga and never having to work again (if they ever did work in the first place that is! )

Sagna is gone. Won't even think about negotiating a new contract until summer and after another shit season and a complete lack of ambition in the transfer market is he really going to put pen to paper?

Players who are happy and want to stay generally don't let their contracts run down to 12 months.

Jenko's new contract will reflect the fact that as of next year he'll be promoted to first-choice right-back.
