Re: The gooners will be missed....
Interesting perspective but I don't think anybody will be telling stories about the good ol' times at Arsenal from 2007-13.
Re: The gooners will be missed....
Sad but true and partly so, because Arsenal enjoyed a more successful spell before that period of time. Still, I was also referring to what MK Gould said about the travels to foreign countries and the hospitality supporters from other countries enjoyed at Ashburton Grove... I am sure some will be missing that either

Re: The gooners will be missed....
At the end of the day when all is said and done I would rather be in the CL then out of it. Wenger has a job for as long as he wants it but will probably leave at the end of his contract regardless - I don't see finishing 5th as a watershed moment for change in our board's approach - we may spend a few mil more next year or we may sell more to balance the books but one thing's for sure: Stan aint gonna wake up in mid-May like Scrooge on Christmas morning and start throwing money about beyond what it will take to keep us competitive for 4th place. So I'd rather be watching us getting caned in the knockout stages of this than playing FC Civil War at 5 to 6 on a Thursday night on a minefield of a pitch.

Our record at home in the CL is pretty awesome pre Schalke
I was boosting London. Isn't this thread about us being missed if we drop out...

It is but it's inevitably going to attract comments on a wider basis than that and I was also replying to a specific point raised about Poldi that those who are indifferent/actively want us not to qualify may find that we'll be recounting tales of our successes in this era in later years when we've fallen.highburyJD wrote:Our record at home in the CL is pretty awesome pre Schalke

Great post... I think its one of those "be careful what you wish for" situations.Poldi wrote:Whether it is with Cologne or with Arsenal, I have always thought that going to away matches is usually more fun than watching home games. Going abroad even adds some more to the excitement.
Cologne have been jumping between the divisions for two decades (currently enjoying a decent run of 13 matches unbeaten - with a chance to qualify for a play off spot towards promotion back to the Bundesliga...) so - I know it's only my personel fate - they haven't qualified for any European Competition for something like 17 years!
During that period Arsenal qualified for the Europe/CL every single year. To me that is some kind of achievement, because you cannot take anything for granted. It's probably not the kind of success that all the Gooners look for at the start of a season (nothing like winning a cup or league title), but if you don't even qualify for Europe for a change, you'll be left watching Eastenders instead. You wouldn't want that to go on for a long time...
A teenage Cologne fan is now member of the lost generation and condemned to listen to his dad's or granddad's stories 'bout good aul' times, when Cologne where going places in Europe..., while their friends support Bayern and Dortmund. You don't want that to happen to Arsenal?
