I'd spend a big portion of it (40 ish?) on Cavani or Falcao. We need a world class finisher in front of net.

Then I'd buy Baines and Rangel (15m total). Our attacking style requires a heavy workload for our fullbacks and this would offer us much better depth. Sagna can stay or go, with these purchases (if he's willing to sign a one-year, keep him; if not, send him off).

Lastly I'd buy Isco (15m). I have been a big fan of his for a long time and I see him as good as Mata (who has been an extremely important piece of Chelsea's team).

One other consideration would be Julio Cesar or Begovic.

Agree with Barrie that if we were gonna spend that money half of it should go on a world-class striker.

Some good ideas but also ambitious estimations - think Fabregas, Isco and Baines would all cost quite a bit more than that (and I don't think Barca would let Fabregas go anyway). Although I'm in real danger of straying into the confines of reality here...

Isco would cost way more than £15m...

We can afford Cesc NB123 because we have first option on him plus they still owe us money for his transfer as well as the Song and Hleb deals.

Even with Baines quality and Everton's need to get as much value for players as possible, fullbacks seem to be relatively undervalued in the market and I could see an offer of 10-12m working. However a potential suitor for him would have to act fast before he starts to get too much transfer attention. I don't think anyone - other than maybe City, because they don't play in the confines of reality, as NB123 alludes to - would offer 20+ for Baines.

Isco, yes, 15m was very modest. I had to do it to make my buys work :P However despite their success this year let's not forget Malaga is banned from European competition for a while because they couldn't pay their players. Surely they can't be that stable financially, even with the deep CL run this year.

Problem is with all of these players is that City and Chelsea have inflated the fucking transfer markets so highly that you have to pay an arm-and-a-leg for anybody even half-decent anymore. Arsenal's record transfer fee of 15m is well behind the times and will have to be broken (repeatedly) to pick up any players that have already established a good reputation.

I don't know where I read it but Isco has a £30m release clause in his contract that he signed recently with Malaga.

Thanks for the link. Wasn't aware of that. Scratch him from my list!

However, it should be noted that a buy-out clause does not rule out a sale of a player for less than the clause stipulates. It only means that if a team comes along and offers more than the buyout clause, they must let the player go. At least, that's my understanding - I don't know how it operates in practical terms. La Liga teams seem to love their buyout clauses.

I think the buy-out clause is a legal requirement in Spain.

You're right on how it operates - but I would imagine if they've set the buy-out clause at that level they'll be expecting to recover at least £20-25m if they were to let him go so early in his contract.

Malaga are about 6th in the spanish league, so without CL money next year they may well be inclined (or even desperate) to offload a player for decent money, not to say that players may wish to depart for the very same reason (or is it just our that are certs to leave according to the press if we miss out on the CL :rubchin: )
