The whole area took a nose dive from the early eighties onwards as smack and unemployment devastated the whole of liverpool .
Whilst Liverpool FC may have contributed to the areas decline its a bit much to blame them for the general decline of the neighbourhood FFS . One of the most ancient and disgusting estates on the planet is only down the road (everton valley).
The council themselves used to board up the residences because they couldn't afford to repair them in the Hatton era so its no new thing .
Besides most if not all of this happened way before the current Owners came in and a lot before the last Owner did too.

the area around the stadium is shocking - boarded up houses everywhere. Not just the odd house but whole streets - I've honestly never seen a worse area in the UK.
