Re: Local Football Clubs
I support football in Canada in general. It's not always easy lol.
Our local team, "FC Edmonton", plays in the North American Soccer League (NASL). The quality of play isn't great. Technically the league is one step below the MLS, and some Cup competitions see MLS and NASL teams play against each other (i.e. the Amway Canadian Championship, basically the "Canada Cup" - winner represents Canada's spot in the CONCACAF Champions League). However, the NASL has no promotion/relegation structure and instead opts for a very North American "playoffs" at the end of the regular season to determine the league champion. Average attendances are probably around 800-2000 and the grounds are not "soccer specific". The first year of FCE's existence, they played on the Varsity pigskin-football turf field, with the yard line markings and all. They're trying to build a very modest soccer-specific home for the team, but financially it doesn't make a lot of sense considering how small the average attendance is.
I'm a fairly adamant Vancouver Whitecaps fan (MLS) so when they're in town for the Amway I try and go watch. They've got some faces you guys might recognize - Y.P Lee, Nigel Reo-Coker, Andy O'Brien mainly.
Edmonton is home to one of the biggest grass stadiums in the country, which means we actually get a decent amount of National Team games. Going to watch a friendly on the 28th for the men's national team in a friendly vs Costa Rica.
Gotta support the local product!

No.
There are enough local clubs, I live in Harrow so there was Wealdstone, plus Edgware Town, and now Barnet are moving into the Borough but never felt the need.
Might go to see a Barnet game though next season, see what their new stadium is like and check out The Hive.
Have been passed it on the tube and the pitch looks excellent.

My mate used to play for sutton. Went to watch him play for them in the fa cup at Colchester and Notts county.LDB wrote:Sutton united. Been twice, to a play off semi final first leg last season which they lost and once with my dad when I was 9 or so. Wasn't as cheap as I expected and full of fucking mongs.
Two cracking days out.
Re: Local Football Clubs
Have various experiences of watching non-league football and sadly none of them were without a massive percentage of the fans being complete mongs and never witnessed a decent game yet. Have lived in my 'home town' for 11 years now and haven't ventured down to see them play once. Occasionally if I'm visiting my old man we wander along to watch Bromley FC which is about as exciting as watching Stoke City

I've always followed Bournemouth since moving here. Would count myself as more of a cherry than a gooner these days. It's nice to go anywhere & pay on the day and stand with people that know the club, history & football in general - sadly lacking at arsenal now.
Also watch Wimborne & Poole Town every now & then.
Poole & AFCB are both clubs going places & fast!

Re: Local Football Clubs
Since being priced out of watching Arsenal I have been going down to watch Wingate & Finchley in the Ryman Premier League.
Average of 150 despite having a ground slap bang in N12 but the local community doesn't seem to give a monkeys about us.
Being a North London club it does have a mixture of Arsenal and Tottenham amongst the support but we all get on, for the most part!

Shamrock Rovers a stones throw away in the beautiful South Dublin suburb of Tallaght. Their floodlights actually light up our upstairs rooms. Go to watch them occasionally and wouldn't wish them any bad luck or anything but defiantly wouldn't be a supporter of theirs.

(JD we know Arsenal are your local team, I'll save you the hassle)

not a lot to add
(I've got Sperz supporting mates who live even closer to the Grove and Highbury than me!)
BTW I never said who anybody should support - just how
Re: Local Football Clubs
Since i moved up to glasgow, ive been to a few rangers games. I quite enjoyed the the atmosphere but the football was TERRIBLE! But it was only 15 quid a ticket!

I've played against poole town countless times, always liked playing down there, they had a couple of different grounds which they shared with other teams. They used to have good travelling support too.SouthCoastArsenal wrote:I've always followed Bournemouth since moving here. Would count myself as more of a cherry than a gooner these days. Didn't they play quite English style football- wingers big #9
was Skurhavy (Czechoslovakian striker) there?

Re: Local Football Clubs
Wiki checked Foggia, they were superattacking and direct under Zeman (great manager)
"The Foggia team also featured star players, especially attacking trio of Giuseppe Signori, Francesco Baiano and Roberto Rambaudi" no Skurhavy (think I remember him in a similar kit...?)
Signori was awesome when SerieA first started on Channel4
