Arsenal/football-related books

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

left foot forward - about his life as striker for charlton in Div 2 is a real eye opener too.

Herd - if you remember, the Game was played May 26th, it was supposed to be April 6th i think. i couldn't get a ticket either so i bought a home ticket for the April Game and stood in the Kop that night...

Not Arsenal related (although it does discuss Herbert Chapman) but a good read if you're interested in the tactical development in the world game is Inverting the Pyramid by Jonathan Wilson.

This date along with the 28 April 1970 is indelibly imprinted on what passes for a brain !
Thats precisely why they were easy to come by ,bank Holiday weekend and wankers that bought into fleet streets ridiculous assumption that we couldnt do it prompted many to back their tickets to the Club !
Many people come up with excuses for not going but there simply arent any valid ones except death or incarceration !
Hornby lived in the area .

Henry Norris 1913 wrote:"Highbury, the story of Arsenal in N5" is probably my favourite. I've also recently read through "Steaming In" by colin ward, some great stories in there, especially about the juve match in '80.
Colin Ward is a good writer ,unfortunately his account of Turin is lifted from others stories as he wasnt there .
He had to delete an entire Chapter as the subject objected to it ,he told me it was the best chapter in it and showed me a load a photos Id never ever seen dating back into the 70's,I now have them at home .
Havent seen him since he was chased out of the Highbury Barn circa 1992 by some nutcases who objected to his telling stories abt Johhny Evans Olly and Solly !
Hooligan writes book and tells fibs shocker!  :barscarf:

Brillant Orange - A book about Dutch Football. It is both brillant and orange, so does what it says on the tin.

Currently reading the Thierry Henry biography by Phillipe Auclair. It's really interesting, very well written and not biased at all despite the author being both a Frenchman and an Arsenal fan. I'm not usually that in to biographies, but as Henry is the player I idolised in my teenage years, I've found it an enjoyable read so far.

Tales from the bootcamps by steve claridge is a good insight into a journeyman footballers life.

Hoolifan by Martin King aint a bad read if your interested in the 70s and 80s terrace culture ....though not sure how much is fact and how much fiction!

A great read but for me the film, as good as it was, doesnt do the book justice.(
Agree wholeheartedly, it is more about his relationship with the woman than Arsenal's historic season in the film (she is nice mind  )

I have this, Garry Nelson trained me at my local football club (Ashingdon Boys) when I was a lad and he was starting out his career down at Southend. Lovely guy, very humble, can't speak highly enough of him.
