Re: The Mesut Ozil Thread
This signing really feels like a big change, like it will be the start of something exciting. He'll be a massive boost to the team, as well as a massive draw to other players come January or the next summer window.
I have a feeling that Cazorla will be played on the left, with Ozil in the number 10 role. However, I wouldn't be surprised if he plays Gibbs in left back and Monreal further up the left wing, or the other way around. I can't see him sticking Ozil out on a more unnatural position.

away from home in the big games i'd play like this, take wilshere or ramsey out for the big home games and play giroud uptop with ozil behind and walcott right.

Re: The Mesut Ozil Thread
Still can't really believe we've signed him - never thought in a million years we'd sign anybody of his quality and he's twice as good as anything any of the other clubs have signed. Unfortunately it's going to mean playing him or Cazorla away from their most effective positions. Ozil is one of the best players on the planet on his day and he'd be first name on the team sheet in the '10' position.
If we're playing Cazorla on the left it shouldn't be as a winger - we want him cutting infield as often as we can (much like when I think it was Ramsey played wide at Citeh last year but came inside to give us extra numbers in the middle often). It's not like we're going to score bags of goals from crosses anyway and it's a complete waste having Cazorla with chalk on his boots. Equally the opposition will be happy to see Walcott getting the ball on the touchline 40 yards out and as much as his laziness irritates me I would rather see him trying to get slipped in between CB and LB as often as possible - and with our creativity he should be lethal. This would then allow us to play 2 of Arteta, Flamini, Wilshere, Ramsey or Rosicky based on form in CM - 5 different options which would give us plenty of flexibility in our approach.
This would mean that our FBs would have to be far more disciplined and not bomb forward, only supporting when appropriate - frankly not one of them can cross a ball and judging by the goals/assists returns from them it's a sacrifice well worth making if it means getting the most out of our attackers, particularly if it means our FBs can concentrated on not getting roasted. No more bollocks like Podolski babysitting Gibbs.
I also think that better support and creativity would help Giroud - although I think it will also underline that we're desperate for a striker who has the movement and pace to get in behind. At the end of the day we're going to be limited with Giroud up front, and although I think Podolski would be a viable alternative with the tactics above, that's where we'll ultimately fall short this year.
We're still lacking balance overall and quality in certain areas but imo this would be the best way to get the best out of the 4-5-1 Wenger will inevitably play.

Taken from twitter,
@Avi_Moores: If arsenal don't sing, Carzola to the left of me, Ozil to the right, here I am, stuck in the middle Giroud this season I'll be disappointed
Looks a great signing to me but I can't help but feel we've missed a Massive chance to close the gap and Really challenge, a top class striker, another centre half and a class DM and we could have given the pl and cl a PROPER run for their money.
Oh well best not moan otherwise Augie and Sid will be inviting me to their little Soirée

Re: The Mesut Ozil Thread
What a darn shame that we couldn't have made this type of signing a season ago - and convinced RVP that Arsenal meant business.
Hope that this genuinely is the start of us attracting some of Europe's best players again.
Only problem I see, is where will Cesc play now when he returns ?

They sold him for a reason. You mugs paid silly money. If he was world class do you think he would be let go by them.
Re: The Mesut Ozil Thread
Well we wanted all the world class players first like Chadli but sadly someone had already emptied their bank account signing them all up. Still, should cement that vital 5th place - gotta keep all those 'worldies' happy on a Thursday nightThfc wrote:They sold him for a reason. You mugs paid silly money.
