Alan Hansen to retire from Match of the Day

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Do they still do goal of the month with the Lightning Seeds "The Life of Reilly" playing in the background? I remember Bergkamp getting 1st, 2nd and 3rd one month, ORGASMIC. :barscarf:

The problem with Hansen was that after a while the analysis was just the same for every game, every week!! Good at the beginning but nothing left to offer now that English football is moving away from the old fashioned way of playing.

Wait a minute retire? Retire implies that you actually do work. The guy gets paid a fortune for looking lazy on the sofa once a week. God I hate the BBC. Whoever replaces him should take a pay cut. Nobody should get paid 1m for watching football.

Haven't listened to Hansen, Shearer, Lawrenson etc since Sky+ made it possible to ignore the boring old farts!

Its gone from the benchmark back in the days of Bob Wilson, David Coleman, Jimmy Hill, Barry Davies and John Motson in the 70s to a total fucking embarrassment these days, I mean Robbie Savage, for fucks sake, surely there must be so half decent ex pro's around, actually without wanting to be too biased Keown is not too bad. The cosy banter that used to be novel in the Des Lynam days just doesn't work anymore, shame.

It would absolutely fantastic if Arsenal can win the title this season just so I can get an Arsenal champions scarf and tie it to his front gate, whilst he's still on MOTD. After all the criticism he has levelled at the club in the past it would be a moment to savour. I live and work close to where he lives so it wouldn't be out my way... c'mon Arsenal do it, just do it. :barscarf: :barscarf:

Thankfully we have a far superior highlights programme on RTE, with pundits, who no matter what your personal liking or disliking of them may be, aren't afraid to call it how it is.
Holy Fuck!!!!!!!!!!! have just found out it's been axed, cost too much money.

They're just going to have Gilsey and Dunphy recreating the highlights on a subbuteo table this year

always came across as a smug tosser to me, MOTD really needs a make over, Shearer is fucking dull as well, and I can't be arsed to listen to Danny Murphy, Pat Nevin or Gus Poyet, i usually sky+ MOTD and fast forward the dull analysis
