was telling a mate about that one of these days. i'd love if verminator and kos (or mertesacker) could recreate that classic arsenal set piece routine :barscarf: god knows how many goals we scored like that in the 90's 8)

I really Bould gets aa say as I believe if he is given the time to work with the defence he cold make a big difference, just look at how well we defended in the run up to the Champions League final in Paris after Dixon and Keown apparently coachng the defence temporarily. I think he can make a difference I just hope Wenger gives him the chance to and doesnt undermine him

I'm not that confident that Arsene will give some freedom to Bould to work with the defense. What happens if Bould asks Santos for example to stay deep, while Arsene tells him in the same time to run forward?
Who were the other "yes-men"?

Of course it won't!! Bould's teams play in exactly the same way as Wenger's, (i.e. tippy tappy shit) the cone laying baton from Rice will be passed seamlessly on.

I think that should read:

"Rice did coach the defence, but he was not allowed the proper time to work with the defence so therefore was not able to get consistently good defending from the players."

Bould is a Wenger man through and through !

Tip Tap football ,with scant regard to defending or for that matter hustling when not in position is the Arsenal Model from Hale End to the Bowl anyone who has watched da yoof or the reserves will know this to be true !

Much as I love him, I fear he will do fuckalski about our defensive ailments nor do I think he has the strength of character required to shake up the old goat who ONLY listens to Gilles Grimaldi ,our great scout who brought us world class players like Squallachi OR the teams mental strength Guru the mighty magical Boro Primorac.
Lets be serious the only person who has sorted sorted our team defensively is Vic Akers FFS unfortunately that was for the girls !

Steve however may yet make a vital contribution in a job where the ability to put out the cones, handling a clipboard, listening to the rantings of a mad Alsatian, and dodging flying water laden missiles are crucial for success !

We wish him well in his new appointment !

We could appoint the Maginot line as Wengers right hand and it still wouldn't improve our defence! 40+ to be conceded again this year. :banghead:
Like others have said, a dictator will not appoint anyone likely to challenge him!!!

A different voice in the dressing room has been needed for some time. I did notice Wenger became much more critical of our defensive side of the game towards the end of last season. Only time will tell. I hope so.

Let's just see how it goes. Bouldy as a player was fantastic, full of guts and determination. I totally disagree with the notion he is a yes man. He learnt his trade off GG and established himself as an outstanding coach.

After all we have for years been screaming at Wenger to bring the old guard back.....now he has done that people still moan.....

I for the record believe its a great move and he will succeed because he is a winner

'Bould, Banfield are used to the way we work'

Steve Bould and Neil Banfield will have no problem settling in because they already know the Arsenal way, according to Arsène Wenger.

The departure of Pat Rice at the end of last season prompted a reshuffle in the Club's coaching staff with Bould promoted to assistant manager and Banfield joining the first-team coaching staff.

Both men have been prominent on the training pitches since pre-season got underway and Wenger is delighted with the new set-up.

"[They have settled down] very well because they are not new," he told Arsenal Player. "We like consistency at this club and they are already used to the way we work.

"They are very, very good coaches and we were in touch every day before [their roles changed], so it's a continuity in the quality of our work. Steve and Neil are more [assigned to] defence and midfield, when we do specific work.

"It's a good moment as well to thank Pat Rice again and wish him well because we are very thankful for what he has done for this club. At the same time we'd like to welcome Steve and Neil. The first signs are very positive."

+++++

So.. as suspected... same shit, just a different arse!!!
