Going back to the 80s apart from Woodcock's 5 goals I remember a League Cup quarter final where we drew 1 all. We must have had 8000 there. Lost the replay at home where I think Paul Mariner had to play at centre half.

Think Charlie Nicholas scored a wonder goal in that draw, but as you say we fucked up the replay at home with Mariner forced to play at the back. The five goal Woodcock was October '83 and incredibly Ian rush also scored five that day.

Was at both the 6-2 when Woodcock scored 5, and the League Cup Quarter Final (86?) I remember Charlie's goal well, didn't we have one disallowed as well (Rix)? I seem to remember we played brilliantly but somehow ended up drawing but everyone was well satisfied thinking the replay would be easy

A lot of visits to Villa Park - and more or less eventful every time.

I just remember that the Villa area is a shithole. And the pubs are shitholes with one notbale exception, although I can't remmeber what that one's called .

The game in 94/95 - paid at the gate for that one and if my memory serves me right, we were in the bottom half of the table at the time. Think Hartson (who was playing very well) and Wright scored goals.

Yeah, towards the end of that seaon ; we were shit, but still won 4-0 ; I remember this as I had £2 on it at 40/1!

Used to go nearly every year to Villa Park and don't think I saw us lose there - was the last time when Santa fell off the roof Boxing Day 1998 or 1999?

I think it was boxing day 1998...Tragic that was, 2-0 up at half time and we were all laughing and cheering when the santa started going all over the place thinking he was still in control, then all I remember was how silent the whole place went when he hit the floor.

Fucking ended up 3-2 to villa too!

2-0 up at HT, then sescond half delayed after Santa hit the floor, and we went to pieces and lost 3-2. Cost us the league in the end, United beat us to it by a point ; Villa Park fucked us in the Cup Semi that year too.

Villa fans from my experience are easily some of the scummiest in the country. Haven't forgotten that day at the grove when they were singing vile stuff about Eduardo's injury - caused by a player who played for their city rivals. *word censored*.

Same here. The away end in the QF game was rammed and I remember a large group of Gooners in one of the home stands as well. Away games in the mid 80s were brilliant. Uncomfortable and interesting in the streets afterwards but wonderful experiences

Worst memory was that inconsiderate Father Christmas parachuting on to the Villa Park roof which was solely to blame for us throwing away a 2 goal lead to lose 3-2

Best memories, super Bob's delicate chip over Peter the Rednose Racist and getting wined and dined in Villa's corporate suite before Benayoun's rare header nicked the points

Sadly any trip involves rubbing shoulders with their moronic "kum-ba-yah" songs and "'ave you won the European Cup". Detest their fans - hope we shit all over the wankers today

6-2 was a great day and against a Villa side containing most of the European Cup winners (do they ever mention that they once won the European Cup ?)

Happy memories of the green and blue season. Finally bought myself the retro shirt from that season the other day as a little Xmas present to myself

Excuse me if I have the wrong game but 2 that stand out for different reasons.
One was a 3-0 win on New Years Eve the season we won the league in 89. Rocky scored a beauty with a lob from 30 yards.
Summed up what a fantastic talent he was.

The other was the League Cup semi against Villa mid 90s, drew both games but lost on away goals. Massive pitch invasion afterwards where we were a little outnumbered

So true, I have great memories of those days. You can talk for hours about the things that used to go on then.
Exciting, fun, scary, adrenalin rush, the camaraderie sum it up.
The amount of walking/running around city centres we used to do then..................
