Re: If Celtic go unbeaten

You know, I was thinking about this "invincible" tag and there is a minor chink that gets overlooked.... amongst our unbeaten league campaign, we suffered cup defeats to Middlesbrough (twice), ManUre, Chavs, Inter Milan and Dynamo Kiev.

Has any team in the modern era ever got a season unbeaten in all competitions?

Preston North End did, as they won the double back in 1880s.

Have you only just realised that? Mention "Invincibles" to any Chav, United, Mousers or Scum fan are you'll get a similar response.

No, they lost 3-2 at home to $hitty and to Dortmund in the Super Cup at the beginning of the season

No, of course I haven't just realised it - I'm not an idiot! I'm well aware we didn't win the FA Cup or CL... and I wasn't asleep (although wish I was) through that awful CL defeat to the chavs :( - one of the most painful nights of the Wenger era.

My question is whether any top team (in a decent league) has gone the full season unbeaten in all competitions. I know AC Milan went the season unbeaten, but can't remember how they got on in the cups.

Wasn't that Juve a few years back?

Agree about the Chelsea game. Massive coulda shoulda woulda but thinking back to how good we were back then imagine only Monaco and Porto standing in our way. All was going well until that dreadful Lehmann mistake, our failure to win the CL that year is always an unpleasant barnacle attached to wonderful memories of the Invincibles. We should also have been out of sight after about 10 minutes in the FA Cup semi against United.

Pft, Celtic are playing in a league where the teams barely fight back. Hardly worth bragging about.

So that will hamper them when they come up against a real test in the Cl, yes ?

(that was the excuse reeled out year in year out when Rangers and Celtic lost in Europe that they weren't up against decent opposition in their league matches) overlooking the fact that they were both just consistently poor teams.

Yes, you're right about Juventus (forgot about them... which is odd with it being so recent :? ) they went the season unbeaten in 2011/12, but lost in the final of the Coppa Italia.

AC Milan went the season unbeaten in 1991/92. Didn't win anything else that season though.

I have to completely agree with this. Jock soccer is such a poor standard that only Jocks and sectarian Irish think it's worth bothering with.

And the poxy fucking sectarian Oirish are only there because it gives them the opportunity to wallow in mindless hatred.
