Re: Previous tiny totts v Arsenal matches
1978 – the 5-0 nil win was my first away NLD, not seen one better since, sat above the shelf so had to keep a bit quiet
1980 - put out the reserves, still won 2-1 (Paul Davis' debut ????)
then we went through a rough patch over there including a 5-0 loss that didn't feel as bad as it should have until
1983 Nov - League Cup game – new hotshot signing Charlie Nicholas hadn't scored since the opening week of the season, cue dogs abuse from the Shelf, cue Charlie smashing one, cue delirium in the Park Lane 'Charlie, Charlie; Charlie, Charlie and there was more to come from him.
1983 - Boxing Day Another couple from Charlie and 2 from Raphael Meade (remember him?) in a 4-2 win
1985 - A personal favourite - Front row seats in the Park Lane Upper, Charlie scores again, Roberts misses a penalty in front of the Park Lane, constant Spurs pressure, Talbot with a breakaway goal right at the end

this is the same club who's 'supporters' a few years later would momentarily stun the Highbury crowd into total silence by celebrating first one year a 1-1, then a year later a 0-0 if they'd won the European Cup.
I remember both times as the wave of disbelief rolled around Highbury, followed by the most shocking but well deserved vitriol directed at their small time fans.
i'm pretty sure that was 95 and 96, and THAT's why Dennis' Statue (the correct one not the peter pan with a pole up his bum one ) goal celebration was so intense. we'd finally put the pikey vermin in their place despite the freezing rain.
ironically, the hotel i went back to that night was the Marriott in Canary Wharf, because I had a Technical Analysis course at LIFFE the next morning at 9am

I was at all of them to, including the 5-0 and 0-5.... And the League Cup semi final second leg and replay in 1986-87.The Knowing One wrote:1978 – the 5-0 nil win was my first away NLD, not seen one better since, sat above the shelf so had to keep a bit quiet

Another that sticks in the mind for the wrong reasons was losing their 0-1 in the FA Cup one year when Garth Crooks scored...
Good news for Sunday is that it'll be my first visit for 20+ years and I have a very good record there!!

Was that the one where I think Jennings got injured when Crooks scored and was carried off on a stretcher, and the whole ground applauded him off?MK Gould wrote:Another that sticks in the mind for the wrong reasons was losing their 0-1 in the FA Cup one year when Garth Crooks scored...The Knowing One wrote:1978 – the 5-0 nil win was my first away NLD, not seen one better since, sat above the shelf so had to keep a bit quiet

Re: Previous tiny totts v Arsenal matches
Brady was a guest on talksport this morning and Alan "thick as pigshit" Brazil asked him if he had a particular favourite derby match from years gone by.
cue a very long pause before Brady asked if he was joking ? He politely reminded the fat sweaty sock about the 5-0 win December 78 (but had the good grace to not even mention his world class goal - see the opening post for the link)
FFS Brazil, do a bit of homework or better still have some allround football knowledge eh ?

And if anyone is unaware or unsure of how good a player Chippy Brady was, FFwd to around 14 mins 50 secs for a piece of Arsenal folklore.
I'm somewhere in that cage behind the goal. I've witnessed many great days out at the swamp since then - but this was my first NLD away.

Thanks for posting that BD , have seen Brady's wonderful goal many times but can't recall seeing the others often if at all. A couple were great crossfield ball by Brady and a lovely Rix - Brady combination followed by a delightful chip by chippy to the back post for Stapleton to nod home.
Could have been more as we hit the bar twice, once when already 5-0 up, will settle for that on Sunday with Sanogo replicating Sunderland's hat trick (how often has a hat trick hero in the derby been eclipsed by another player ? )

Re: Previous tiny totts v Arsenal matches
Over 35 years ago but I have such vivid memories of the game. The away fans were opposite end from where they are put now. We were in the ground at about 1.00. The team came out to inspect the pitch at about 2.00. Brady came out in a full-length leather coat, ambled over to the away fans and was waving us up into a frenzy. As he walked off back down the tunnel he was pelted with all sorts of shit by the sperz fans. That's probably why he made a point of celebrating in front of them after scoring the goal. No love lost.
Being two days before Christmas, we were singing carols. Clearly, you can hear the 'Jingle Bells' for much of this clip. But the most beautiful song was 'Silent sperz' which we sang for the last 10 minutes of the game; and which you can just about hear us singing right at the end of this clip.
Getting out of the shithole was just about as much fun as it is now.
Great day out.

Re: Previous tiny totts v Arsenal matches
er the official end has always been the park lane end though we did used to camp in the paxton and the shelf in the EARLY 70's when u could walk all the way round . Remember the silent spurs to an almost empty ground ,after wasnt fun and they followed us all the way back to Finsbury Park a long old walk.Ben Diesel wrote:Over 35 years ago but I have such vivid memories of the game. Was that the one with the blow up dolls and the "sex crime, sex crime - hang him, hang him, hang him" songs after Pleat was caught with a hooker ?
If so that was my first NLD too not the 3-2 win in 1989
