Re: PREVIOUS FA CUP FINALS
I've been to 1993 and 1998. I missed the Cardiff years for a number of reasons involving being a student, having to work at weekends, having no money and my mother telling a colleague of her's: "Oh, don't worry, I think he's already got one" when asked if I would like a spare hospitality ticket which his stationery company had for the 2002 final. I of course didn't have one and didn't speak to her for days afterwards.

Re: PREVIOUS FA CUP FINALS
Went to the 98, 01, 02 and 05 finals so am 3/4 for FA Cup final wins.
Good memories of all of them, 1998 just seemed so easy, I know there was a period at 1-0 where they had a couple of chances but it was really as stress free as a Cup Final could be - We went back to what was the Hobgoblin (now the Herbert Chapman I think) on Holloway Road afterwards and drank a ridiculous amount of champagne.
01 - Not much to say on that one
05 - Absolute daylight robbery, and how we laughed, it was just after the whole Glazier take over I recall. My mate was a printer and made this big laminate face of Glazier with a Manc scarf and hat on, on the drive up in the morning a car with a Man United flags etc on it drove past so we showed his the picture - I've never seen someone rage so much, it was this guy and his wife and he was livid, actually tried to run us off the road and then drove on ahead and pulled into the hard shoulder, hilarious.
02 - My favourite I think, mainly because in the upsurge in relief at winning something after the heartbreak of the previous three seasons (losing the league on the final day and cup semi to that welsh twats goal, the uefa cup on pens, and the 01 robbery) so to win with two such fantastic goals, that I was directly behind was fantastic, especially against Chelsea. Driving home on the Sunday we passed a limo full of Chelsea fans broken down on the hard shoulder, how we laughed.
I didnt go in 03 because rather inconveniently my youngest son was born two days previously (we'd agreed that if Freddie scored in the third cup final in succession that would be his name) What made it worse was that sat behind where I would have been was an apparently very attractive woman who spent a large amount of the game flashing her tits

What was the feeling at the ground - a bit like we stole something?goonersid wrote:been to one final, 2005.
We robbed that one - never in the hunt until PV final kick.
Re: PREVIOUS FA CUP FINALS
Great pre game atmosphere with gooners giving utd fans the "sold to the usa" (glazier sale had just been confirmed) then after 10 mins we were silent, as we could barely get hold of the ball.Swifty wrote:What was the feeling at the ground - a bit like we stole something?goonersid wrote:been to one final, 2005.

I was totally sober as I was deriving so can remember the whole game and there was a feeling of anti-climax when we lifted the trophy.

Re: PREVIOUS FA CUP FINALS
I am 5 out of 6
1993 vs Sheff Wed
1998 vs Newcastle
2001 vs Pool
2002 vs Chavski
2003 vs Soton
2005 vs Manure
2014
The best cup final I have been to is the 2002 win vs Chavski, Lovejoy with his "its only ray parlour" gaff, being superior in every department to them, two spectacular goals gooners going ballistic in the stands hugging complete strangers. This only happens at big football matches.

Great memories lads.
I have been to every Arsenal final home and abroad since the 1987 Littlewoods cup but I am not going to Wembley on Saturday.
1993 - I still remember the noise for Linighan’s 1993 winner and from my position I could see the entire Arsenal end going berserk. Spine chilling stuff. Also remember O’Leary saluting the fans after his final game for the club. Didn’t he pick up his first booking of his career in that game or am I imagining that?
1998 - A great day out and a great finish to a great season but still have the slight disappointment that Bergkamp didn’t make the final and that Wenger didn’t bring Wrighty on for a few minutes at the end. Was also my last visit to the old Wembley for football. (went to see Bon Jovi there the year they knocked it down).
2001 – As StuartL says in his fine opening post, it was a fantastic day out. Almost perfect in fact. I was gutted beyond belief when Owen, who had done nothing (f*ck I sound like Wenger talking about Drogba) got those 2 late goals. European Footballer of the Year my arse! Vieira gave Gerrard a lesson in midfield play, Henry was denied a goal in a final by a handball, the Arsenal end was in fine voice. Looking back though, it was a fantastic experience to see Cardiff and the Millennium stadium and I think the pain of that unjust defeat is eased slightly because of what it seems it led to the following season.
2002 – my favourite season of the Wenger era without doubt. Pires (my favourite ever Arsenal player) at his peak. Still sad he missed the end of the season like Bergkamp in 1998 but we knew well in advance he wouldn’t play unlike Dennis who broke down in training in the build up to the final. Fantastic weather, fantastic goals, great venue and even the Chelsea fans weren’t so bad on the day (pre-Abramovich of course). Really happy times those were. Arsenal as it should be, great players, great support and all united as one.
2003 – Having let the title slip despite being a better side than Man United this was at least some consolation. Played under a closed roof gave it a different kind of atmosphere. Pires getting the winner was nice having missed the final the previous year and Dennis also got to play in an FA Cup final at last (although sadly for him not the Wembley final he had dreamed about). Kept the momentum of winning a t
2005 – Strange because the way I celebrated Vieira’s winning pen was more crazy than any other goal celebration and yet have never been able to watch that final again (penalties excepted obviously) because we played so badly. Similar to Adams' semi final winner against Spurs in 1993 I fell about 10 feet down an aisle and badly cut my chin and elbow … I used to bleed for the club in those days.

You are thinking of Alan Smith - I think it was the first booking of his entire career.Clash wrote:Great memories lads.

Also memorable was the night before. We stayed over in a Travelodge in the centre of town - opposite a pub owned by Sam Hammam the charistmatic ex-owner of Wimbledon. Chatted to him for a while. Great banter between the two set of fans! "We've got Silvinho, you've got our stereo..."!Clash wrote:2001 – As StuartL says in his fine opening post, it was a fantastic day out. The thing I loved about the 93 final was the utter revenge that Mark Bright (who was an odious twat as a player, even worse as a pundit) suffered from Andy Linighan.
His elbow on Linighan was as premeditated and nasty a challenge as Ive seen, you can watch him size him up, no attempt or thought for the ball, totally deliberate, and then smash his elbow straight into his nose.
And who was marking, or trying to mark, big Andy when he rose to head the ball for the winner?
The ultimate justice.

Remember watching him swing the elbow and saying to my mate "that fucker just did Linighan" and my mate saying he wasn't sure. Replays later showed clearly the fucker did him.

Was a major jostle when AL scored that night.

What I remember about both '98 and '02 was the utter confidence that we were going to win, as the teams we had in those seasons were so fucking good. '02 was actually the first trophy since that '98 Cup Final, as the double was completed in reverse order that year as we didn't clinch the League at Old Trafford til the following Wednesday ; what a couple of days that was.

Yeah, never a doubt going into either of those finals. We were THAT good. Or the ones against the chav and the victims. Robbed by the victims. Still pisses me off that every single fucker in that ground and watching on TV saw the handball except for the poxy ref and the poxy linesman...TheCook wrote:What I remember about both '98 and '02 was the utter confidence that we were going to win, as the teams we had in those seasons were so fucking good. Whenever I see or hear Bright pontificating about dirty play or whatever I think 'you f-king hypocrite'. Waddle's blatant dive that night seemed to go unnoticed too by the guys who think its just foreign players who did it. I took a real dislike to that Sheff Wed team.
