As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
Not being funny Rilo, but stick to slagging off spud fans on their website, at least you were funny then. By the way, your mum didn't mind me bollox the other night.
Yes he does make mistakes and isn't great under pressure
right well surley as a central defender that should be what he is best at and as for plsying him above johan then hmmmmmm senderos has not been the same player as last season since he took that shoulder injury in the owrld cup, he seems scared to get stuck in he wants too be called swiss tony, then show the same attributes as the great ta number 6 and get stuck in whether you are gonna get hurt or not , personaly i would rather see my 5 year old son playing their rather than senderos... coz at the moment he is a fucking liability
Rilo, far be from me to upset such a legend as yourself, no seriously mate, you've given me some great laughs giving prehistoric man some proper shit. well done son
I'm pretty certain we'd all have Kolo and Gallas as our centre back pairing, not because Senderos and Djourou are awful but because Kolo and Gallas are that good. Is there a better pairing in Europe when fully fit?
But I think we need to give Senderos a chance. Yes he does have a touch of the Titus Brambles and he still has that one bad mistake a game in him. But I for one think he's got something. When I watched Cygan I struggled to find many positives. But Senderos, I think, has something that can be developed. He's no nonsense and I agree with the comments that when we're under the cosh he stands up to be counted like he did at Anfield and like he did in our Eurpean run last season.
Positionally from crosses and corners I think he's improved a lot and at times bails us out of trouble with clearing headers or last ditch clearances. Ok positionally when players run off him he sometimes gets caught napping and he can appear to be a bad reader of the game, but I think this is more concentration than anything which can be worked on. And we know he's no Beckenbaur on the ball, but for me he's one of the few 'Row Z' defenders we have in the squad and that is something we need. (Shame we can't roll Phil and Djourou into one player as you'd have one hell of a player with Sendero's no nonsense style and Djourou's ability on the ball).
I think he was a better player last season that he was the year before - so he's improving which is all we can ask from young players. When he stops improving year on year that's when we should start asking questions. If he's still making the same mistakes just as often this time next year then I'll side with the doubters, but until then lets give him a chance.

Nice to know I entertained someone other than myself
And Trev I pretty much agree with everything you've said. Especially the "Row Z" part. I wish that Djourou and Clichy could adopt that attitude once in a while. I've lost count of the near heart attacks I've had from those two being above a good hoof.
Football is all about opinions, that's what makes it great, but the one thing that seperates us from the knuckle draggers down the road is our ability to form an articulate and intelligent debate about different subjects. That is why we support the Arsenal and they support that team WITH A MASSIVE COCK.
Everyone making good points and maybe senderos could be a quality centre-half but i cannot see it. Maybe i have a different footballing philosophy but i prefer players to look comfortable on the ball. thats not to say i want to be playing 1-2's on the edge of the box but just to have some technique so they can trap a ball before putting it 50 yards downfield. Johan would be my choice to cover for Billy but i'll be there supporting the mighty gooners with or without swiss cygan.
Spot on GoonerMC - great to debate our mighty team with like minded Gooners. It would be dull if we all thought the same but good to chat about with people who all have Arsenal at heart.
Get off his back. It's people like you mongrels that can ruin a players career. I remember a certain Tony Adams starting off in almost the same way....Oh how people forget.
What a 'great' argument put forward by freddie71, 'get off his back you mongrels'. This forum is for Arsenal fans to debate certain topics about the Club and it would be sad if we all had the same opinion as there wouldn't be a forum!. I personally don't believe that Phil is good enough for the Arsenal and that's my opinion, but i can assure you i'm 100% behind ALL the players when we're playing no matter what the score, unlike some, but that's their opinion, they've paid there money and there entitled to their say. As i've said, i would like nothing better than Phil to start putting in top performances and i really hope he does.
While expressing dissapointment in Big Phill, doesn't mean we aren't 100% behind all of the boys on the field. I was an embarrassed gooner at craven cottage when hundredsof Arsenal fans started singing for Fabregas when Alex song wasn't performing. How this that help the young lad? Not exactly gonna build his confidence is it?
No matter who is on the field I an most other gooners will be willing and cheering them on.
Good luck Phil. If/when you come good I will be first to hold my hands up and say sorry and fair play to ya!
