I've heard this a lot and while it remains to be seen whether or not it comes to fruition, my feeling is that we only ended up with the trophy because we were up against relatively average sides in Wigan and Hull. Obviously we can only beat the teams in front of us, and I'm not discrediting the cup win by any means. Defeating Hull in 2014 has the same merit as beating Man Utd in 2005, and the records won't lie.VAVAVOOM 14 wrote:I think you're all underestimating the psychological implications winning a tangible trophy will have on these players: they're now winners and will yearn to taste future success.
Spot on.VAVAVOOM 14 wrote:I'm going with 3.
I think we're going to retain the FA Cup next season and I reckon we'll bag the league the following one. Fancy us to then either recapture the FA Cup or Wenger will win his first ever League cup.
I think you're all underestimating the psychological implications winning a tangible trophy will have on these players: they're now winners and will yearn to taste future success. Granted, winning a cup doesn't guarantee future trophies but it was still a major mental hurdle to overcome and I think it will have positively altered their mindset.
I absolutely believe, and have long said, that winning that first trophy is vital mentally, and it will make them stronger mentally and more hungry for future success.VAVAVOOM 14 wrote:I'm going with 3.

100% agree, and if AW signs the extension then sadly I think we'll win 0DB10GOONER wrote:I absolutely believe, and have long said, that winning that first trophy is vital mentally, and it will make them stronger mentally and more hungry for future success.VAVAVOOM 14 wrote:I'm going with 3.

But back here in the real world, all that positive mental progress is totally negated if you have a small squad lacking quality in-depth, if you have a second striker like Giroud playing as a lone first striker, if you don't have a proper top quality striker hitting you 20+ PL goals a season, if your manager refuses to be pragmatic and do proper prep for the games against the top clubs, if your manager is not flexible tactically, and if your manager doesn't strengthen in the summer and in January to be able to absorb the injuries/fatigue/drop in form that our key players suffer EVERY SINGLE SEASON.
