Serious Question - Can we win the league?
Re: Serious Question - Can we win the league?
All of the following need to be done before that can happen.
1. Players we needed a world class holding midfielder and Goal Keeper and bolster the squads defense generally.
Above all we need a captain to lead the team on the pitch when things go wrong !
2. We Must abandoned TIKI TAKA Barca lite Football 4-5-1 BS style forever it has been found out .
3. We have to Study the opposition and play to exploit their weaknesses and maximise our strengths
4. We must learn what to do when NOT in possession and practise defending set pieces with man marking.
1. Is possible and can be done
2/3/4. Require the Manager to change !
There are Huge lessons to be learned from this World Cup and our leader has been there to witness it .
If he doesn't change however we will win fc all !

Re: Serious Question - Can we win the league?
Yes, but Im a natural optimist
Victims will struggle, Manure will take at least a season to do much, Chavs will need a good part of the season to get things gelling. Citeh probably strongest again. We could be in for the double
@Augie- I know things have changed tactically, though obviously tactics arent set in stone, and continually ebb and flow, but as Costa Rica proved, and Wally/ Rambo/Ox and hopefully Sanchez will, running with pace at defenders will always get goals. Key surely is to start off with a quality DM, with that we are back in business.

I'm not sure that Chelsea have done great business tbh, they've signed a midfielder who doesnt want to be there (that could be a bumpy ride with their support) and a 10 goal a season striker who had one good year, they have also lost 2 of their most influential players in Lampard and Cole so that has weakened them.spendsum4uckingmoney wrote:No, I think we are still too far behind & Chelski are doing good business. Its going to be 6 very strong teams next season.
Granted they may not be finished but lets not overplay things.
Fabregas has a Benitez scenario written all over it and unless he delivers 10/10 displays weekly he will be an easy target as a former Arsenal favourate who is replacing a Chelsea legend in Lampard.

Re: Serious Question - Can we win the league?
Would absolutely love a quality DM but its not a carte blanche to go and play recklessly, we would still have been bumholed at Chelsea, Liverpool and City playing as we did. I honestly think we'd get just as much return from a bit of tactical adaptability and general positional discipline all over the field, although I don't see why we shouldn't have that AND a shiny new DM
Regarding Khedira he is a very good player but I'm not sure he fits the bill for us. He seems more in the Arteta mould - a CM employed in a deeper-lying role to act as a deep playmaker as much as have defensive responsibilities. He was absolutely top drawer against Brazil when he was able to stroke the ball around and exploit the gaping holes in a haphazard midfield to continually work the ball to Muller, Klose and Ozil in dangerous positions. Not so impressive against Algeria and France when he was simply required to stay back and do the dirty work, he was getting there a yatd too late and more often than not it was Schweinsteiger making the tackles, cutting out the passes/crosses etc.
I'm not saying that a DM needs to be this brute clogging round but I'm not all that fussed about what a great footballer they are. We have 5 other attacking players for that.

I reckon with Sanchez we have comfortably the third best squad in the league - not far behind Chelsea and City.
Man Utd must wonder whether their clearly nearing expiring date RVP Rooney strike force has got another decent season in them. Both look way past their best.

They released 2 squad players who were no longer first choice - wont hit them that hard at all.
I'm a fan of the bloke but I'm not sure how successful costa will be for them tbh - on the other side of it, he does like playing the physical striker role and if he does anything at all he will be a big upgrade on what they had last season

Re: Serious Question - Can we win the league?
They will miss them when they look to rotate as they do after CL games or when they need to use their squad, our club has been criticised in the past for allowing our senior pros to leave because of this over 30s policy (its been a big stick to hit tje club with) because the dressing room could do with their experience but Chelsea wont miss them, is that what you are saying?augie wrote:Gunnersaurus wrote:I'm not sure that Chelsea have done great business tbh, they've signed a midfielder who doesnt want to be there (that could be a bumpy ride with their support) and a 10 goal a season striker who had one good year, they have also lost 2 of their most influential players in Lampard and Cole so that has weakened them.spendsum4uckingmoney wrote:No, I think we are still too far behind & Chelski are doing good business. Also, dont fall into the trap of being fooled about Chelsea's striker options, Eto'o, Torres and Ba are no Sonogo so Im not sure if he is an upgrade on them or if its more of the same, Costa has his own limitations to deal with and if all he has is liking the rough stuff than he will be in for a shock when he meets a few of the cavemen centre halves in the PL.

good a signing Sanchez is all it means is that we have another shot of 4th place - anyone thinks we will win the league is sadly deluded

Re: Serious Question - Can we win the league?
As it stands, we can't win the league.
Re: Serious Question - Can we win the league?
We are a couple of players short of having a squad capable of winning it, but even were they to be signed, Wenger's inability to employ some sort of tactics in the big games means we haven't got a fucking chance.
I still expect us to get walloped when we go to Citeh the chavs and probably utd.

Re: Serious Question - Can we win the league?
Have to agree with what seems to be the general consensus, we can win the league if we make another 2/3 real quality signings.
Debuchy looks done, fine with that. Backup keeper, another CB, top quality DM and a striker (Bony would give me a Bony) and we really will have a squad that can compete.
Plus we will have Diaby back, he will be like a new signing.....

sorry but this thread is ridiculous.kiwomya wrote:Cheer up.Gunner Rob wrote:good a signing Sanchez is all it means is that we have another shot of 4th place - anyone thinks we will win the league is sadly deluded
we lost 5-1 to Liverpool, 6-3 to City and 6-0 to Chelsea last season.
in attempting to resolve those defensive deficencies we have sold our long standing RB who will probably be replaced by the Newcastle RB and sold all our back up goalkeepers.
can someone tell me how we are expected to improve our defensive displays next season??
