As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
REB wrote:when henry scored with the header in the last minute at the grove was the first time i left there thinking i was at a home game as people were going mad and the place was bouncing. bergkamp in the one nil 1996 i think and we were sat in the northbank when andy cole scored, bunch of mancs jumped up, goal disallowed and they got thrown out before they got the shit kicked out of them by a lot of angry gooners sat close by
My first was in 1968 a few months before UTD won the European Cup,they looked ordinary except fro this little Irish guy with long hair.
First he harassed Peter Simpson into a long back pass and fingers Furnell fumbled into his own net and then after beating two men he scored another.
I has seen a genius in action the wonderful George Best !

Does it now? It still feels like leaving a neutral venue whenever I walk away from the ground.
i agree but my point for that game was that the place went mental and on that day it did feel like home for the first time, as grounds go i still dislike the grove and i still feel it doesnt have the same aura as walking into highbury did .

100% agree, went Wembley on a free to see Jaguars/Cowboys the other week and its just the same unwarm, unwelcoming, sterile "nice" ground as the Grove, they seem to have no soul, they just feel to me like venues available for hire,
not a football match but an event ,sitdown shutup, i dont go to as many games as i used too and outside of the cost which is a big factor tbh but the main reason is i just dont like the sterile atmosphere, its just not fun anymore, maybe im getting old but i do miss the days of walking up to a ground and paying to go in, stand where you want and shout and sing what you want. but those days are gone forever and for now im a customer to arsenal plc instead of a supporter.
REB- the bergkamp winner was '95. I remember that united wore a grey shirt, and old whiskey nose blamed the colour for the defeat, later on that season united lost 6-3 at the dell. guess what was to blame once more

After that game a friend remarked that Arsenal's defence lead by Adams got every tackle in , he was astonished with the quality of defending and commitment of the defenders. Hope he is watching today to see Per and Nacho repeat the trick.

Simon wrote:The only one that stands out for me in the last few years was the hard-fought 2-1 win in November 2008. Two excellent goals from a new signing (name escapes me but I think nowadays it rhymes with "runt") and the team showed the real grit that has been missing for so long. The atmosphere was electric.
The 2008 team was decent, and we were having a good start to the season as well ; think it was also a November fixture?
The 2008 team has since been rebranded as 'team of *word censored*' though :
Gallas
Nasri
Van Persie
Adebayor
etc
Hey, what about average Al ? He gets mentioned on the "word censored" thread a lot .
