I do not care if a kid has been with us for 10 years or 10 minutes, I want the better player to be selected.
I do consistently write that I want homegrown kids to do well, but only if they are good enough!
Well said Quartz. Hope Beckham does well for us just hope the hype that will be created doesn't backfire on him and us

As for the other youth players:

I have been impressed by Isaac Hayden, centre back and defensive midfield.
Good temperament, good positional sense.

Zelalem great technical qualities, though his entry into the first team squad seemed premature?

Maitland-Niles has pace, seen too little of him to say more.

A player who is really highly rated at the club is striker/winger Chris Willock, whom I have only seen a short clip of.
At 17 he has time on his side.

Akpom is being given a tough job with these 10 minute sub appearances, but hard to see how he will get more game time at present.

I am not getting carried away about any of them, just mentioning who is coming through.

Have to admit that I have never seen crowley play, but from the clips I have seen of zelalem he looks to have real quality 8)
Feast your eyes - plays like a more refined Wilshere.

Nice. Any idea who the number 9 is? Had some good finishes.

I'm a little concerned that Crowley is too one-footed. Fair criticism?

^ Yes, very one footed at the moment. Plenty of time to rectify that though.

Number 9. is none other than Chuba Akpom.

Makes it that much harder to make the grade as a young CF when your opportunities for the first team are playing as an isolated striker.

I've watched Crowley a few times and he was decidedly average.

You both made two comments 1. Highlighting that you believed it to be nepotism. 2. Went off about 'he better not get in in front of Crowley.

I would say it is fair to draw the conclusion that you've already formed an opinion of him based on nothing.

Imagine the circus if the kid makes it to the first team....you think we get a lot of tourists now

Haven't seen enough of the youth teams to comment on players merits...but if he makes it good luck to him.

And...?

You said we "slagged him off", to my mind that means we cursed him out when neither of us said anything personally insulting about him.

Call me cynical, but yes, I do believe nepotism could be at play here. On the other hand we could also just be looking to exploit the "Beckham" name from a marketing stand point, everyone knows the clout that name carries. Could prove to be a very astute move financially providing he is half decent.

Remember that Beckham senior is at heart, a Tottenham fan. He is probably just using our superior youth system to bring Junior on, and will shift him to the other end of the Seven Sisters Road when it suits! :banghead:

He's defo not. Goes to The Arsenal a lot, and will always be United tbh. All his kids are Arsenal as well. I remember he even bought a load of tat down Avenell Road after a champs league game once. Read his granddad was totnum but he's always trained with us in US off season (except one year he went to spu*s to train and the really showed their inferiority to us...got names printed in the shop and everything, we did it for about 3 years and kept schtum!   )

Don't care who his old man is if he's good and plays for the first team wish him the best of luck! Same with all the youth players. Crowley looks a player but he needs to pass a bit, and not just through balls. Seems a bit selfish, but hey how much can you tell from YouTube...Eboue looks like Zidane on there!

 Admittedly only seen him once and he came on for the second half, but he was far and away the best player on the field in terms of positioning and vision, and a cracking finish too. That was the start of the season, so maybe hes had that coached out of him

The one thing that bothers me a bit is apparently he is great mates with Jack Wilshere :(
