I Hate Hleb wrote:THE FACT DIABY IS GOOD IN THE AIR IS HARDLY A REASON FOR PICKING HIM IN FRONT OF FLAMINI. IF THAT WAS THE ONLY CRITERIA, GILBERTO WOULD STILL BE IN THE TEAM.

I AGREE THAT OUR NO.2 IS NOT BEING PLAYED IN HIS BEST POSITION, BUT APART FROM LOOKS, HE IS NO PATRICK VIEIRA. PROBLEM IS THAT DIABY IS MORE AN ATTACKING MIDFIELDER THAN A DEFENSIVE ONE, AND I'M NOT SURE HE COULD BE RELIED ON TO DO THE 'DIRTY' PART OF THAT JOB.

STILL, I'M SURE THERE ARE SOME FIXTURES PLAYING AT HOME WHERE WENGER COULD TRY THE CESC/DIABY PARTNERSHIP WITHOUT RISKING TOO MUCH.
I couldn't disagree more! I think that Paddy was very much an attacking midfielder that also did the dirty work. There is no reason why Diaby couldn't do the same. Given the chance I believe that he could be every bit what Paddy was.
Dont forget that Paddy had Petit / Gilberto as his central midfield partners . both those players were much more defensive minded then Fabregas . Besides controlling the play with his passing , part of Fabregas's game is also to get forward frequently , if Diaby does the same we will leave our back four too exposed . More so because our wingbacks also get forward so often .

Am expecting somebody to pipe up with the old "diaby can do a job" on the wing kind of remark  It is true that he is totally wasted on the wing and is yet another example of wenger showing no confidence in a player and playing him in an unfamiliar position thus undermining his confidence even more  I too had high hopes for diaby but judging on his recent inability to retain possession and overplaying in ridiculous areas then I am very worried that he will not quite make it at thof. I dont think there is one fan who really believes that flamini is the long term answer even though we all respect him for his 100% work ethic

What we need is a 'New Gilberto' not a 'New Paddy'. Fabregas covers that role and Diaby could if he regained his early confidence and form. Having said that he would never be more than second choice to Cesc. The Flanimal has done superbly well for us this season but like many others I don't see him as a long term replacement for Gilberto. Diarra also falls short, quite literally, and is not the regular answer either (although as I said on another thread, I hope he stays).
So, who is the answer? I don't think we have anybody that fits the bill long term at the moment, and with the bosses reluctance to dip his toes into the transfer market, I don't see we have any option other than the Flanimal.

Diaby expected to be out ten weeks. Hardly a miss, but tells you everything you need to know about the useless oaf!

Him and Walcott so far, who else is going to get injured pre-season for an 'undetermined' length of time?

Useless Oaf?

I think people seem to forget that he had his ankle smashed to pieces in a horror tackle at Sunderland away at the age of 19. Its an awfully unfortunate circumstance for Diaby, he has quality, bags of quality, but he has never ever been able to continue a run of games with re-occurances of this horror injury. He suffered a crazy tackle by Paul Robinson last season and as lucky not to have his leg snapped then as well as the tackle by Joey Barton in which he followed through with both knees on his leg and bent it like a banana.

I think without that injury we would have seen a much much better player. Massive shame to be honest

I suppose these incidents also makes the USELESS OAF wear a scum top around his house and also get mindlessly sent off up at Newcastle last season, the sooner he either gets sold or retires the better in my opinion, if he can't come back from an injury he had around 5 seasons ago he should hang his boots up.

Sky Sports no nothing about Football - set back? Diaby?

If someone could pull out some stats I'm sure it would show that we win less when he plays. I can't remember him doing anything ever against any decent sides. A liability, plays at his own pace and I can't get NUFC out of mind last season.

Time to move him on I think.

I see where you are coming from but he has had plenty of time to recover fully from an admitedly horrific injury over 5 years ago. Plenty of other players have recovered from serious injuries and have produced great form.

I think you're right though, he had potential to be great, but unfortunately that isn't the case anymore and he has long since proved himself to be a liability. People mention Newcastle last season but I still cringe more at the Old Trafford own goal!
